Hello all

Maybe a little early to join the ranks but what the hell. Heading down to Sydney to pick up my new D3 V8 early next week. Looking forward to it as heard nothing but good things about the engine. Obviously a little thirsty but it a big motor!! Not many for sale in Au so must be a good sign:)

Thanks and Ill keep you posted on how things go

Best cruiser you will ever drive, enjoy. Sadly though, like us Diesel drivers you will have to fill up every couple hundred km's:angel:

Watch the section between coffs and the Gold Coast, can be hard to find a servo if you miscalculate on some of that section.

Enjoy the D3 Diverre, if I bought another D3 it would be a petrol V8 instead of the diesel.

I bet yours will still be going long after the last TDV6 has met its maker. ...;)

It's not too bad. But I guess it can be a trap if you don't travel it often.

Mainly need to be aware that there is a bit of a gap between about Byron/Bangalow and Tweed where you could get stuck. Approx. 100kms.

Having said that, I always fill up here in Coffs before going.

Still get 650 to 700km easily on a run so should only need to fill up once from Sydney.

Hello all

Just to keep you up to date. We ventured to NSW and took a look at the beast. All was well and smooth as silk. Got a bit lost on the test drive but that was no concern as it was all a pleasure. Did the deal and headed back to Sunny QLD arriving just today. Journey was great and only 200 bucks of fuel for the 1100K journey. Not bad for the V8! Decided the dealers attempt at a detail was pretty ordinary so gave here a good internal clean.
Then the problem struck:mad:. No biggie I hope!! but when I started her after the clean a noise from the back end like like something was wuring!!! and the indicator on the dash indicated the car was permenantly lifting. When an adjustment is made to the ride height the noise stops but then starts again??? All this while stationary. But noise continues if in motion. No alarms from the system?? Any ideas???

The noise will be the compressor for the air suspension. Does it stop after a minute or so? Mine sounds like an old Kelvinator on start up but I have no warning signs on the dash.

Hi preacher

Yes it does?? sometimes it lasts longer than others??? Should it be doing this??? just does not sound right. It seems to come from just under the left rear wheel arch.:(

That's the area for the compressor pump - check under the car (between the sill and the chassis rail) that the lower plastic cover hasn't come off.

Cheers,

Nothing to worry about,

The compressor is located in front of the passenger side rear wheel under the car. As the suspension is lowered/raised the compressor replenishes the air in the reservoir (long cylindrical tank under the passenger side of the car). the time the compressor runs depends on how much air needs to replaced in the tank which depends on how much the suspension has been adjusted. If you are not seeing any faults I would not be concerned.

Note that if you are "mucking around" with the suspension height, you get to a point when the air in the tank is completely depleted and the is system relying on the compressor only to raise the car. At this point the car will raise more slowly - you may also run the risk of overheating the compressor. Best not to fiddle too much...

Have a look at the manual and various threads here and other forums, you'll find a good deal of info to help you understand what is going.

EDIT: as Gordon says if the cover has come off it will sound louder...

as Gordon says if the cover has come off it will sound louder...It can make quite a racket if someone has jacked the vehicle under the compressor and has broken the compressor mount bracket.

Mine was making a hell of a noise and I found stones stuck between the GOE protection plate and the cover after a few hundred k's of gravel road. Got rid of the stones and its back to the usual quiet compressor sound that you can just hear inside the car so you know it is working.

Ok So I just went outside and took a look under the car. I removed the bottom cover and started the car. The compressor ran as expected for a short while. I suppose its a case of "How loud should it be". Without the bottom cover its pretty loud. Bracket was firm and compressor runs fairly hot but not 100'C so all good. At the end of the day its a compressor, a very small one but still a compressor and all compressors I have come across in my working life are loud, very loud!!! I replaced the bottom cover after cleaning all the crap out and refitted with the three bolts. The bottom centre bolt went in further than it was before removal which lifted the covers (once snapped together) further up towards the compressor rubber foot mount. This I think gave clearance around the whole compressor and when it ran it was just audible from inside the car. I assume that is about right. So the next question is "How much does it run if the vehicle is left at standard height"? Once the compressor turned off i sat in the running stationary car for a further 10 mins or so (adjusting nothing) and the compressor started again but only for a short while. Is this normal or is it possible I have a very small leak??
I think im getting paranoid!!!:o
