View Full Version : D4 3.0 Whining after switch off

Ive noticed a noise in my car after I switch it off. It's a high pitched electric whining which stops with a click a little while after locking the car.
It sounds like it knows what it wants to be doing and stops when it wants to but after six months of ownership I never noticed it until the day after I installed my dual battery system.
Any ideas?
thanks
James

Mine's the same. No idea what it is but's always made that noise. Only notice it in the garage.

Lots of other vehicle makes have ultra-sonic injector cleaning after shutdown so I think that's likely to be the case here too.

On my Defender, 4,000 miles, sounds like a jet plane pre and post start up...
Start up = Click, clic, slurp.
Running = Turbo whine and very grumbly engine, more like a snarl!
Stop= Click, clic, slurp.
Had it checked over by SHB, who have 10,000 Defenders on lease, and told is normal for Puma 2.4! Not sweat sounding like a V8, more angry and exhausting.

It's not the centifrugal oil filter spinning down?

Have the same noise on mine. D3 has a similar noise but not as loud or as high pitched.
Very high pitched sounds like a capacitor (like ones in an electronic flash)

I was told by the Technicians at my dealer that the noise is the EGR valve and it is completely normal.

I can hear the air pump for the suspension hum for a short period after switch off. Both my LR3 and RRS do it.
