View Full Version : 101's needing home

I was at AJ (Anthony Johnstons) yesterday enquiring about work/ parts for my Defender and S1 and couldn't get a park due to the number of 101 in his shed.

With all the talk and hot air from this group re 101 I thought they were all sold and space made in the workshop for other vehicles. I as we all do lust after a beastly 101 and was of the impression that they were all sold but.....they are all still available, all3, one 12v with hardtop ex RAF, one FFR 24v and another converted to a 300Tdi.

Can you all buy one so firstly you can justify the amount of traffic/ gos on this thread, and more importantly, make room in Anthony's workshop for our S1 repairs

One of the remaining two is being looked at on Saturday and may find a new home with another member here.

Sitec - what time are you going to be out there?

Cold is something I haven't experienced in the 101. I have my trusty 3.9Litre Heater sitting right next to me. (even a diesel generates some heat!!):p

Although I would recommend some ear plugs.

You have all that thermal insulating marine carpet.
It's amazing how much heat gets sucked out by bare panels. My feet get quite cold in the 101.

Sounds as if we are making room in Anthoney's shed.

Thank you all that bit- I will get some earplugs for the delivery and additional for the poor ones who live with the moaners that missed out.

Thanks again for making room for business as usual in AJ workshop.

Ventilation and heat in summer and cold in winter is an issue with a 101. I have found extra insulation under the engine cover, particularly over the top of the radiator is an absolute must.

I did this on mine and heat in summer is now bearable (just) and noise is much reduced so that you can even talk.

Ventilation is a weak point - Ron has some vents in the front that seem to work and I am going to put some eyeball vents in the footwells to take fresh air from the tunnel to the footwells.

Nevertheless expect temps inside to be about 10 degrees warmer than outside even with the sides up - until outside temp then drops - then cold all round.

A lot of heat comes in through the canvas roof when the sun is out.

No Mick

I just went around to get some parts and there were a line up of leafers awaiting attention and the 101 were dominating the landscape.

Thought I would just make comment re amount of communication concerning these 3 vehicles that had been awaiting new owners.:)

There will be several of us going over the remaining two tomorrow. Between us I think we will cover off all bases. We can let you know if there is one left, and what sort of condition it seems to be in once we are done there.:)

If Sitec can drive one back to SA, I'm sure you could drive one back to the ACT.

That one looks a bit tired DLRM, Is that a reasonable price for an ambo in the UK?
I saw a lovely GS sell for presumably not much more than that..

It looks worse than it is in the earlier pictures.

Overall a solid bus which is reasonably well sorted. It had quite a bit of money spent on it to get it on the road, including a new clutch, edelbrock carb and a load of wiring redone.

I suspect if you wanted it then there would be room for negotiation on the price, or at least what you got in the package with it.

Nah, wouldn't fit under the carport roof. :p You obviously know the vehicle, which I guess is the "kicker" when importing one all the way down here. Often the pretty ones are not as good as they look.

If I were to bring back a brit 101 it would be a nice radio body.:)

Too rare - too expensive - obliged to restore and keep original so no fun.

Radio body is a better option.

Well, the two that are left are up for grabs.. The RAF hard top is unique for sure but very well built, and would make a camper with minimal work. The frame is all wooden and lends itself to being insulated then lined internally. The diesel is still there, as I settled on the V8. Two reasons, 1, getting it over the pits. 2. The Irish stuff! A given really when I'm Irish!!! :)

Sitec changed his mind.
The one he bought was the pick of the bunch although the motor was a little off. As he is going to change the engine and transmission anyway, it made sense to buy the one with the better body and chassis.
