Sounds like a silly question I know but I have a 96 (April built) 3.9 V8 that has the Cat light on the instrument panel that lights up for ign then goes off. Everywhere I've looked so far seems to say that I should have them, 1 on each side of the front section of exhaust, but it doesn't.
It has 2 silencer (muffler) boxes on the whole exhaust (1 large & 1 small like an old fashioned hot-dog at the end) & that's it, could somebody have removed the front section & replaced it with a pre-cat one. If so could/would that effect the running of my wagon?
Thanks :D

ps the whole system looks reasonably new.

Australian delivery D1's didn't get cats, ever. North America did.

Ah thanks for that, was curious as my Haynes manual said they did but I wasn't sure. Do you know if removing the larger "muffler" & replacing with a smaller "hot-dog" would make any running difference aside from probably sounding better/louder? :D

Steelo, you know the best thing you can do to a Haynes w/shop manual is paint it green and throw it into tall grass, no really, Regards Frank.
