Hi
There seem to be three options;
1) 5-8mm steel
2) 8-10mm Aluminium
3) 20-25mm Marine Ply
I am leaning towards the Aluminium, but i wondered if anyone has any pros and cons on these options?

What ever works for you, I've used all over the years but currently I use the BBQ plate;), why carry 2 items when one will do 2 jobs:D

Attach a metre of light chain to it so it's easy to drag back out from under the vehicle when you've finished with the jack.

Steve,
You talking "change a wheel jacking" or Hi-Lift jacking?
Change a wheel - I would go aluminium as per your suggestion for the bottle jack.
Hi-Lift - I would go with the bespoke plastic Hi-Lift base plate any day of the week (or at least a custom one to the same dimensions). It has a recess to prevent slippage and appears to be indestructible.
The Farm Jack brand one sold here in Australia is very similar.
Hi-Lift Off-Road Base (ORB) - alleviate jack sinkage on soft ground | Hi Lift Jack Company (http://www.hi-lift.com/accessories/off-road-base.html)

HI Lou,
Thanks for that, it is mainly for a bottle jack right now so it will probably be aluminium because of the weight.
h-lift v air jack comes next :D

Steve
