What was once a great interstate battle of The hardest men in the game has now turned into a refereeing PC joke.

Bring back the biff!

I agree mate but the rules are the rules and a standard needs to be set even if I don't agree

Yes I thought it was a bit strange, that Brett Tait got sent off for headbutting that poor innocent NSW fist.

I have been watching the replays and the only explanation I can find for 2x each side being sent off is that the refs were terrified that they would be seen as "pro" Queensland.
NSW certainly cannot blame the refereeing for their loss as it appears they got a huge let off. Imagine if Queensland had 13 and NSW had 11 for that 10 minutes.

Maybe you guys north of the border wold prefer it if NSW's was only allowed to field their under 18 side and they were penalised if they crossed the half way line.

Anyway the only real football game of skill and true hardness is Rugby Union ....by the way when is the next Bledisloe Cup annihilation planned. ...;)

This thread originally commented about the refereeing and if that is the new standard of refereeing that the game will be pushed to provide under the new CEO Smith then the State of Origin will lose its appeal and end up marginalised in time.

The footage they showed this morning certainly showed Hodges throw a couple, so it should have been 12 a side.

Queensland outplayed them in every aspect, and I think NSW should think themselves lucky it was only 26 points they scored, as they certainly had the opertunity to score a few more tries.

Cheers Ean

The big cry emotion will be happening after the All Blacks do their normal yearly smashing of the wannaby Wallabies. ...:p

And you big sooks from north of the border may well have something to cry about after the decider so don't get to cocky. ...

The blues allowed you mugs to win so there would be spectators at the next game otherwise the Queenslanders would all stay home and sulk into their crappy XXXX beer. ...

That's what I kept telling my mates last night. It's not about the game, it's about $.

Funny, I was chatting to two Kiwis in Kiwiland last night and one was going for Blue, the other for Maroon. I wondered how they decided who to go for, as neither has lived over here. Yet!

Forget the sin binning which was joke, the decision making by the refs in the first 10 mins was shocking.

The first penalty received by QLD for a strip by a NSW play was lucky at best. Then a couple of minutes later Cameron Smith blatantly stripped the ball from Ryan Hoffman 15m from the NSW line and nothing.

Two tries result from those decisions and the first 10 mins of domination by QLD shut the game down and that pressure was built of two very poor decisions.

Merrin definitely need to be binned and Hodges did run in and throw punches so sin binning his was fair. But Tate and Bird ?

Anyway will make for a cracker in a few weeks in Sydney.

Penalties for stripping the ball are often 50/50 calls, and let's face it, most of the 50/50 calls in a match will go to the home side - the refs will deny it, but the crowd will always be an influence in big games like these.

That being said, NSW were never in the hunt last night, the refs were never going to influence the result in such a one sided match.
