Hi guys, is there much benefit to disconnecting the front swaybar with standard suspension for offload work? I know the theory and I'm looking at some quick disconnects so curious what the difference is in practice.

Not with standard air springs. You will rip the bladders off the mounts in no time.
With some Arnott Gen III air springs you will improve suspension travel and be able to take advantage of the anti-sway bar quick disconects.
Cheers, Paul.

Thanks Paul - I'm glad I asked the question.

Hey Paul, have had the quick disconnects on mine sine I installed the lift kit & GenIII's, but have never taken advantage of them. Have you used them offroad & did they make a great deal of difference?

I'd say it depends on the type of 4wding you do.
Ill be putting a set on mine seeing as it spends about 75% of its life off road. Bitumen is only getting to and from.
They do make a difference. There are a few videos on YouTube (including some that I've put up) where you can see the front wheel in the air to the point where it looks like the axle is almost straight and not articulated at all. That's the sway bar fighting it!
Shame they cost so much...

ive got a set on mine and well worth it, im on coils tho so dont have to worry bout the bags ripping :D, made the truck a heap more capable off road. its not just the extra movement you get from the suspension but it seems to keep the wheels on the ground a lot better on the smaller articulations to, if you get some bags that will handle the extra movement i would definitely recommend them. or you could put some coils in there like rover should have in the first place:firedevil:. (start hurling your abuse now)

Main reason I have not used mine is once disconnected they just flap around in the breeze! Been meaning to get around to making a second bracket for each that would be fixed to chassis so I can clip onto that to keep them up & out of harms way. Surprised they didnt think of that when they were designed.:confused:

Do you still have any of your sway bar disconnects available?

Which disconnects are you using? I was looking at the JKS ones for Jeep which disconnect entirely from the body & the swaybar.

Gary - I sold out of the Carroll Rovers Fast Flex Sway Bar Quick Disconnects a long time ago.
Stickso - check this post ''Fast Flex" Sway Bar Disconnect Field Report (http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/7-range-rover-mark-ii-p38/28625-fast-flex-sway-bar-disconnect-field-report.html)
Not sure if Justin is still making and selling them.
cheers
Paul.

Thanks Paul, but it looks like they haven't been produced for a number of years now.

I'll have to get some GenIII bags first anyway.

Well there you go, and that post is from 2006. Funny thing is last I bought a bunch of them from Justin in mid 2011.
His site is definitely closed now though.

I hear you Paul, but rather something more solid permanent, have been thinking of replicating side that connects to sway bar with plate behind to mount to chassis, that way can disconnect from bar & connect to holder with same clip.
Just need time!!! Anyone know how to make 26hr fit into 24??

I tried the Carroll Rovers sway bar disconnects years ago, I think i was sent one of the last ones as a free replacement for one that broke.
I use the JKS disconnects referred to earlier, (they can be a pain to reinstall unless your RR is on level grounds and messy from the grease from the UJ's)
