View Full Version : Late night acquisition syndrome...

Damnit... ive done it again.
I have this problem where I sit up late at night, might have a wine or a martini or two.. and impulse buy things that I absolutely cant live without. Then completely forget that I have bought anything.
I arrived home tonight to find a card in the mail for a large package to be picked up from the post office. Your guess is as good as mine as to what it might be. Its not off ebay.....but it must be off the net. I dont drunken impulse buy things in real life....
Does anyone else suffer from this horrid affliction?
Still..... it makes going to the letterbox a bit like Xmas. :p

Yes, But I usually realise when I try to shop for small things like FOOD and find there's nothing left and no idea of where it's gone.

I hear you there. I just had the embarrassing situation of having to nip out to the car to transfer some money into my spending account when my card bounced over a bottle of gin......

My daughters flatmate did it. The house was full of unopened parcels that the postie had delivered. She hoarded stuff as well. Difficult to deal with and daughter no longer lives there.

All the time, wifey is on to me. I can try and say that the price in Pounds Sterling is dollars, but I think she has worked it out. This doesn't include postage. I do now have a really cool defender hoodie in green. Love it.

I have the same affliction occasionally. Every time i see an empty bottle of Jamesons in the morning i immediately check on line banking to see what i have done. However you are right about the Xmas thing. For the time being I can get away with it because the family are away in In the UK but they'll come home and see new fishing gear, new this and new that and the gig will be up. I will have one reply to them when they say anything " well you lot have been swanning around Europe the last 6 weeks. This is my way to to not feel let out."
Cheers to all. I'll have another one thanks.

I once had an indiscretion involving whiskey, ebay and a very expensive Mamiya Medium Format kit.
I was out bid (sniped) at the last minute thank goodness.
That said, the post office know me well and I've rarely got any idea what a parcel is until I open it.
Hint - get a PO Box ;)

Ha.. you think you have it bad.. I don't even have to be drinking to buy too much unneeded stuff online and then forget about it until it arrives.. :p
I knew I had a problem though when I was hailed down on the hwy by a white van; when I pulled over I realised it was the parcel delivery guy and yes he had some parcels for me - he decided that delivering on the hwy would save him yet another trip to my house.. (joke was on him though as he was back the next day)

I even have two or three copies of the same thing, as I have bought something online, forgetting I had already ordered it once (or twice) the night before or previous week. Like rapid fire Artillery rounds, they're all in the air before the first one lands! :wasntme:

Yep I know the problem too.
My wife shudders every time she sees me on ebay guitar section.
I got GAS, (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome), rapidly running out of walls in my music room to hang them all.
Plus a couple out in the shed in various states of repair work, plus the old S3 still in rebuild, plus, plus etc etc. lol.

Don't look in graysonline as they often sell signed guitars in the memorabilia section:wasntme: I have been tempted but resisted as it would look nice but my musical ability is zip.

Fortunately I pretty much have enough guitars to see me out..... But for many years I bought plenty of music stuff the same way. I've been a pro musician for about 20 years and I'm in the part of the cycle where I am downsizing everything. Most of my gigs these days are small venues so I have a nice setup for that sort of show and the old bigger PA systems and amps are collecting dust...
And after many years of trying, I finally managed to stop impulse buying effect pedals I never use....

Girlfriend is always asking me what it is I'm picking up from the post office. I rarely have any idea until I open it. I just order too much stuff to remember. :D
Recently bought a compression test kit. I have no need for one at the moment but it seemed cheap and I just KNOW it will be useful one day.... It's sitting in the lounge room completely sealed in the box still. haha

I'm lucky in that the better half has control over PayPal, so I resort to preference of COD & locally & try to cover that by selling stuff outside Ebay or if necessary thru Ebay, I can then justify spending the money on Ebay as its "Landie money" & should go back to the Landie:cool:
And, I don't drink at home- but make up for it around the campsite- away from the computer...

Turned out it wasnt anything I bought. Well... sort of. I chipped into to one of those pozzible fund raising sites for a friend of mine who was trying to get her new album off the ground, (www.laurazarb.com (http://www.laurazarb.com)) and it was the thank you stuff from that....

The only question is do I want one on the bull bar and one on the roof cage? or just one or the other. Its already coming with a set of Narva driving lights....

Yeah I went a 20W 240v one. A guy who sits near me at work said he'd seen a 30W running and it was bright enough that he would never even consider a 50W. I don't have a big space to light up, so hopefully 20W will be good. If it's as good as I'm hoping, I might find myself buying a 10W 12v one for camping too. ;)

This is why I love Ebay...
I bought two driving light covers for $10.00 & postage was $10.00, still cheap covers. I thought it was China but they arrived two days later from Sydney, no invoice but two sets. Being the Honest guy I am, I told them in a message & what do they want me to do?
This was their answer.
hi Deborah,
thank you for your time and message.
i just want to contact you to see whether you have get the item since the warehouse man pick up the wrong item for you, this item is for 2 covers.
could you please pay the money back to us? thanks again for your kindness, so how about AU.$ 18 not AU.$ 19.98? or we will lose a lot. you can send the payment to our paypal account here xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
thank you in advance.
zoe
And our reply.. ( after contacting Ebay as to procedure)
Dear welcometop,
You accidentally posted us a second set of lens covers which we didn't require. (We only ordered and paid for one set.) My husband notified you of this and we wish to return this second set to you. Could you please send us the money for the return postage to our paypal account and when we return it, we will post positive feedback. The postage we paid for these was $10.00 so I assume that this amount should cover the return postage costs. We don't want to pay for the second set of lens covers because we don't need them. You said in your letter that "the warehouse man pick up the wrong item for you". I checked this with ebay and they advised to follow these directions to solve the issue. We haven't opened a case or reported this as we are happy with the one set of lens covers that we received...but we don't need another set.

For anyone interested in these lights, I picked up my purchase from the post office today. (I even knew what it was going to be. :D )
It comes with wires dangling, so you have to attach a 240v AC power plug yourself. It is a dull day here, but even so, it added a substancial amount of light to my engine bay. Now I just need to motivate myself enough to work on it at night. Hmmmm.... we'll see. It's bright, but not excessive. If I get another I'll get a 30W or 50W. ;)

P.S. I regret nothing on this purchase. :p

Ozbargain is another site where you spot bargains and end up buying stuff you don't really need. Picked up a couple of rain jackets the other day for $17 each and the labels showed $249!! inflated I know but they were probably worth $80 to $100 each. Anyway you do see some amazing deals on this site but you sometimes got to be quick before the deal is "Ozbargained" as they call it :)
50 free prints from Snapfish at the mo so might give that one a go!

Beats me. We have had some rain in Sydney lately and I was in the emergency control centre last night until after closing time. Hoping to get back up there in time this arvo. SES?

Does 9pm count as "late night"? I just bought 2 new tools on ebay.
Both stud removal tools. I figured if the first one doesn't work, I need a backup plan.

Woke up last night, in front of the computer with the screen thanking me for my purchase. At least I know I've bought the DVD of the Camel trophy Land Rover Years and a GPS tracking/shutdown system for the Disco.

Been there.
Those tracker/immobilizing systems look tops.
