Well I thought Coopers were supposed to be indestructable. All their advertismnets lead to that.

Obviously not right. This was after about 150km pretty rough gravel and I still had another 250km to go.

http://www.aulro.com/afvb/attachment.php?attachmentid=62297&stc=1&d=1372341493

So I'm looking for some BF Goodrich M/T KM2 in 245/75-16 x 5. I'm just looking for suggestions on the cheapest way to buy them. I'll consider Tire Rack but I'd like to hear from others who have used them and what it ended up costing with fitting and freight.

Happy Days.

If soldiers break stuff that is soldier proof, then nothing is indestructible. 😁

i did 5,000km on dirt, gravel, sand and mud on coopers, no issues.

I'd done the same on the old style original BF Goodrich MT tyres. My first punture in them was about 110,000km. I was a Fibre Optic Cable tech for a Telstra Suby. So sometimes there were roads, sometimes there was not roads but old ripe lines where the cable had been laid years before.

I've seen all the Ads about the Coopers and they were on the Disco when I bought it so no idea about the KMs. Think they used to have a 80,000km warranty. No idea how that worked though. They are the old style S/T tyre. (not the Maxx).

Happy Days.

"Blew a Cooper, Looking for some BF MT KM2s "

Been There - Done that!!

I brought BFG MT KM2's from Tire Rack a year or 2 ago. I would have purchased locally, but suppliers were quoting 3 months delivery. My local bloke was supprised (and ****ed off) when I walked in 5 days later with tyres to fit on my rims! Shipping was extremely reasonable.

However ....
....I have heard that tire Rack have since bowed to pressure from BFG to not supply to Australia any more. You might need to contact them to confirm.

Good luck.

HA HA! I find it hilarious that people still think Coopers are indestructible, definitely living off and old name! Especially the ST, notorious for doing exactly what yours have done....

With regards to the new BFG's, the tyre guy I bought my Maxxis Bighorn MT-762's off recommended the Bighorns over the BFG's, apparently they are having a lot of problems with chipping and uneven wear, resulting in horrid on road performance.

Personally I wouldn't go with the 'big two' (Cooper and BFG) I think it's like Toyota, they're just over rated crap...

Just my $0.02....

I've no experience with Coopers, but but the Bighorns and the BFG KM2's are both excellent tyres. I've had both and no drama's with either.
If your statement about chipping and uneven wear on the BFG's is pointed at the KM2 then that's certainly not my experience and I don't recall hearing other reports of it happening.

Joel0407 - I got my KM2's from Tirerack early last year - same situation as Owl with no stock locally (255/85-16's), and stupid prices. That seems to have improved and they are now pretty readily available in Melbourne.
There wasn't a huge cost saving with Tirerack and since the dollar has dropped a lot since then its probably not a viable option even if they are still shipping here. Assuming there was stock locally I'd be buying here if I had to purchase some now.
IMO the Maxxis Bighorns are still a good option if you're struggling with price/availability on the KM2's.

All makes of tyres chip on interior roads,my MTR's failed miserably earlier this year and I have BFG's now that will do the same under the same conditions.I would not buy the KM2's as they wear unevenly and are not fun to drive on,try michelin latitudes, they did very well on my D1 and quite a few contractor vehicles up here run michelin, they cost more but work, they are going on my defender next. I bought a set of BFG KM2's recently off ebay through I think, International Tyre Importers or some such. They were $221 each + delivery, which to me was $98 for 4.

They are only for trips and are fitted to Disco rims.

Two of my Cooper Tyres delaminated on a trip from Perth to Adelaide last year.
I ended up getting the KM2s in 245 75R 16 from Bob Jane, as they had them in stock.
They seem to be travelling well, but I stick with the 10,000 km rotate, balance and wheel alignment.
Certainly not a cheap tyre though, but Im hoping to get plenty of km's out of them.

As someone said look on eBay or gumtree, and consider bighorns as well, they are as good as the bfg, just a bit noisier but also at least 10% cheaper.

Hey mate, I just had a look at the Michelin Latitudes. They are far from a MT tyre. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Coopers and BFG are still no where near the prices of Toyo and Michelin. I might save a bit on Maxxis but I havent found them that much cheaper.

I'm not at all against the lesser know tyre brands, for road tyres I prefer Khumo.

Maybe luck has a lot to do with it. In 2005 I did home (near Brissie)-Mt.isa-Hatches Ck via the Sandover Hwy-Darwin-Wyndham - Diggers Rest via Karunjie Rd-Derby via Gibb River-Broome-Cape Leveque-Tom Price-Newman-Gunbarrel- Innamincka via Walkers Crossing-home then 18 months later Vic High Country all on the same Cooper STs. Also been to places like West Kunderang heaps of times. Now I think of it I don't think I had to change any until normal replacement. Have still got the second lot on the D1 & still no problemos. I've got Bighorns on the 'Cruiser ute & they seem fine but very noisy on the tar. I got them to replace Maxxis 751's which put me in a rather hairy situation on the property. Looking at the Bighorn tread they're not going to last to long if driven 90% blacktop, which I don't & probably way too aggressive for beach.
Well there, I've just put 7 years bad luck on myself! :p

You'll save on initial purchase price with Maxxis but they wear quite quickly compared to others.

I've seen this with several different vehicles running Maxxis.

They are a pretty good tyre though, just quick wearing.

Just be honest with yourself too about the actual use you will be subjecting your tyres to. I sat down and worked out I would perhaps do LESS than 1000km of actual dirt driving a YEAR. This helped me to select a tyre that was A/T but hard wearing and high load rating for the uses I will be subjecting it to. For ages I ran 255/85/16 BFG Mud terrains (not KM2) and got really good life span,(60,000km++) but I was sick of the on road noise and basically I just don't do the sort of offroad driving I used to do anymore.

I went with M55 (http://www.toyotires.com.au/suv-tyre/m55) in 235/85/16 on Wolf tubeless rims, and so far very happy. Sand they deflate/ bag out adequately at 20psi and lower, rocks and mud they have been fine at low pressures with NO sidewall damage, and on road even wet bitumen they are fantastic.

After 20,000km they are wearing at such a rate they should see 80,000km.

Yeah I agree with you there mate. My issue is its in the mud that I need the traction. I find the same with road tyres. I always choose a wet road biased tyre because unless your on a race track, most wont go close to the limit of your tyre in the dry. I did drive a WRX though.

St George Tyres have the BFG MT for $250 but none in stock. I called them and they only have the BFG AT in my size in stock.

Seems International Tyre Trader (eBay) has all of their BFG KM2 tyres under $300 and most under $250 with the cheapest $205 but none in 245/75-16. I have emailed them for a price and if they can supply. They currently look like the cheapest way to go.

Great service from them too.

I just got a reply with "no stock". I was hoping for some more information than that so I've asked for a time frame for stock and approximate price.

Happy days.
