My new bull bar from the good people at Outback Accessories Australia. fully ADR and Airbag compliant and can take a winch up to 12000lbs. :D:cool:

Outback Accessories used my car as a template and now can produce bull bars for the P38A

Further photos on request if you would like a better view of any part of the bar.

Bugger! On my phone the photo appears really small. Have to wait till I get home on the laptop.

Looks good though from what I can see though.
Did they manage to hide the windscreen bottle?

I assume the bar itself is a D2 one with modified mounts.

All the Bars seem to come out at about $1200+fitting price range. They made the bar completely custom apparently it was easier than modifying a D2 bar.

They have made a nice bash plate to surround the washer bottle.

I will post more pics tomorrow when the light is a bit better to take pics.

Quite reasonable.

Any bash plate option for the steering arm etc? Sure something can easily be made up otherwise.

Hi intheozone,

If you get the chance you reckon you could upload some more pics of your car with the bar on? I'm still overseas for another 5 weeks so can't order anything too soon anyway, but still keen of some more pics being uploaded if you get a chance.

Also curious if there is any protection plate other than the washer bottle guard.

And as Gary asked, Curious how much more vulnerable the air intake is now with the new bar.

Cheers, Peter.

Can't wait to see some bigger pics! I was about to book mine in for a bar but will wait to see this one! Can you post a link to Outback Accesories website, there is company in Victoria with the same name but they know nothing about the Xrox bar for a p38, are they related (I guess not)? Hoping I can get the bar frieghted down to Vic and fit myself or locally! Very excited, could be the best bar available yet! Did i i mention some bigger pictures please?!:D

If you are using google chrome, try right clicking on the thumbnails and choosing open in new tab. Just left mouse clicking on them opens up the same thumbnail pic in a new tab for some reason. Well it did for me anyway.

Good to see more accessories becoming available now for P38's somehow have a feeling this is just the beginning, noticeably more P38's hitting the tracks here in Vic also. Prices are just right now for more people to start getting into them! So here's hoping there will be many more options available soon - Next priority is a good quality smart looking SNORKEL.
Then a solution to move Becm or even replace with something much smaller/waterproof!

Yes the resolution is fine. For some reason chrome browser opens the images small if just clicked on, but if right mouse click and open new tab the pics are decent resolution. Unsure why but it's not hard to right click and open in new tab....

Just want a winch, Snorkle and rear locker then ill be happy with it. My Gen III airbags arrived today so will put them in on the weekend... Oh plus a new exhaust system I want... Plus bore it out to 5L.... Ah the list is endless.

My next serious mission is a Snorkle how can it be this hard to find one?

Pete38
12th July 2013, 06:03 PM
Pretty sure that's a wish list Keith.

Getting a rear bar and rock sliders fabricated to match the tube xrox bull bar will be fairly easy I'm thinking... I need a new rear bar anyway as mines split pretty bad with tape to hold it together from those damn rocks.

Outback Australia are going to be designing a new rear bar to match the XROX front bar. As they are just down the road from me they will be using my P38 as a template once again.

Quote stolen from other thread to keep it on topic... Somewhat.

Hmm interesting. How long they thinking till they'll do it? Any rock sliders/sill protectors planned?

New front bar could be done in as little as a week. The rear bar will not be ready till at least September they say. Rock sliders in a month or so...

intheozone
15th July 2013, 09:58 AM
I don't work or have any connection with outback accessories, they are just using my car as a template for a few things.

The new rear bar (to match the xrox front bar) has not even been designed for the popular Nissan/toyotas yet. They will do it for a range rover particularly if they get some orders for the bull bar.

Understandably it needs to be financially viable for them.

Rock sliders are apparently fairly easy and I will get some early next month.

Thanks intheozone. Slightly jealous of you right now.

Yeh I'm keen dependant on price and whether they will package them together at a competitive price.

The front bar looks quite likely for me, but as the rear bar likely doesn't need any adr approval nor do the side steps there are other options I'd also consider. I already drew up sill protectors on CAD but just didn't get them fabricated yet.

Might give them a call once I'm back in oz in early August. Outback Accessories in Perth Yeh?

Hi intheozone.

Well I'm close to ordering my bar but just thought I'd ask of your thoughts before ordering.

Are you happy with how the tubes goes over and round the guards? Some ways I like the idea as it'll help the front quarter a little with protection but just not sure how far they actually stick out.

Do you have any side on pics of the whole car and bar?

Any insider info on the rock sliders or rear bar?

Have you fitted a winch to yours? If so what did you fit? I'm looking at the Runva 12,000LB, or the Runva 11XP or the Tigerz11 Grande all with rope... Just not sure how well the Runva 12,000LB will fit as its got a fairly large body on it.

Thanks, Peter.

There's enough width in the cradle section of the bar for just about anything, even the 17500. The EWX 12000 is a good unit, was my only other consideration apart from the modified Goodwinch from the UK.

There's a cutout for a handle but just rotate the gearbox to suitable point. It's an easy process and would need to be done on any winch more than likely.

What vehicle is it on BTW?

Xrox bar bought. Guy at Opposite Lock said one he just ordered for the P38 was made in 10 days so here's hoping I have it by 2 weekends time.

I ordered from Penrith (further from me but I had my reasons) and he said there is another one on its way to his store for a P38. And when I went into Narellan on the weekend that guy said he had 2 other enquiries. So it looks like there's some interest in this bar. Guess it's because there is only this an one other that has the ADR approved/airbag compliant sticker on it.

Supposedly it's built and was either waiting for shipping or in its way. I'm sure you'll get it before then. I bought from Penrith because I asked him if he could get a Runva winch and he said no but they are a great winch for the money. Rather than another outlet that said you get what you pay for, hey buy a Warn for 12 grand lol.

Hi Peter

Sorry about the delay. I have been in the UK....

I love the bar and think it suits an off road p38.

Photos should be included although they make the car look higher at the front than the back??? The car is at standard road height on air bags.

No winch yet but I am looking at the warn 10,000lb one with dynema. According to Outback accessories it will fit the warn 12,000 winches.

As for the rock sliders and rear bar no news yet but I am a bit broke at the moment as I have just moved house and lost my job :-(

Enjoy the bar

Thanks for the xtra pics. Just playing the waiting game now. Was hoping to have them by Saturday but no word yet so maybe next weekend... Got the winch sitting there. Bought the Runva 12000Lb one. Meant to be a good budget winch.

I can't see the bar being too hard.. I think the winch will take longer to do properly.

I'll be looking at trimming the wheel arch liners.. Be interesting to see how much can be trimmed so it doesn't show at the front. Still looks good though. I can't seem to find any shorter washer bottles so the guard can be left off.. Or well their guard looks pretty tidy anyway and if the washer bottle is gonna hit, well I probably shouldn't be climbing that rock anyway ha ha.

Stay away from ALL water when you finish that job! The passenger side inner liner has the air intake above it... you open the front of it up in any way and your asking for water straight up the guts of the intake into the MAF and then through and into your engine. Have seen this a number of times with std unmodified inner guards simply being a little loose at the front edge.

Seriously, be careful.

It reinforces the need for a snorkel. Does it not.

True true.

I'd like one and have thought about it a number of times, perhaps even dreamt, but I might visit the temporary raised air intake idea as well. Maybe this should be further up my list I guess as water does scare me a bit in a P38.

All these things. Front bar, winch, rear tube bar, rock sliders, snorkel and finally finish my extended shocks and spacer install.. And by then I'm sure there will be more

Keithy P38
6th September 2013, 08:23 AM
You raise a good point! Without the added "wading" protection of the front bumper there would be even more need to lift the air intake.

It's a good case to put to the minister of finances hey Peter ;-)

Glad I've got one on mine now!

As my last car was lost to water in the engine. I am also concerned about water getting past that guard which is why I have not trimmed it yet. What is to stop using some silicone hose to make a Snorkel?

Steve

Got my xrox bar yesterday. Supposedly there are two more coming for the P38 next week at Penrith branch alone.

It bolted up pretty easy. Few little things like the holes in the air con condenser bash plate needed to be drilled bigger but thats it really. All holes on the bar itself were spot on. Not too heavy to lift as it goes on in 3 bits and pretty easy to line up perfectly.

Pics to come once I fit the winch... And either get the bar and painted black grill dirty or give the car a wash to match the clean front bar. Maybe tomorrow.

It doesn't look anywhere near as up at the front as the recent pics. The 265/75/16 km2's look good glaring out the front. Standard tyres would look a bit odd mind you.

But I feel it does need a tube bar on the rear as the approach looks are more aggressive (and high) than the rear departure.... But my rear bar is split and refer to it as a saggy bum. Had planned a rear tube bar and carrier anyway. So this will be either a custom one by a fabricator or an xrox one itself once they are made for the p38. Supposedly a GU Patrol prototype has just been made so hopefully its not too far away seeing these bars share common attributes.

It's in another forum buried in here. Think the topic had winch bar written in it.. Might need to scroll through a few pages of the topic list though.

I personally didn't like it but obviously each to their own because many people bought it, and it didn't seem to line up properly with the guards because I think it is a D2 bar slightly modified. And any mods to the brackets make the adr compliance void.. But I'm sure you can get a compliance certificate after making the mods if you decide to push the bar back so it lines up and doesn't have as big an overhang.

Winch and cb in now. Had dramas with the farelead mounting though. Not sure whether to blame the bar manufacturer or the winch maker... Driving lights in for both low and high beam (two sets) and eventually a single or possibly two spotties. But I'm trying not to look like a "insert bad name here" with a whole bar full of lights.

Looks really good. I love the practicality of a tube bar, so much clearance.

One of the main reasons I went an mcc bar was the amount of protection you get with a triple hoop design.
A mate who lives out of town averages a big hit every three weeks, they're shocking around here.

I'll double check with him about the srs compliance. He seemed to think that it's not effected as the modifications aren't altering the crush characteristics of the mounts. He know his stuff just talking to him, but said his mate is the one who does the altering - not sure if he's an engineer. ..

I understand you not wanting it to look like a cash throw arb job, and it doesn't.

A great addition to your strange rover.

I am biased but I think they are a great looming bar for the P38. You will find a huge improvement to your approach angle.

I like the fog lights in the wings. Fingers crossed they will be making the rear-bar soon to match outback accessories are keen to use my car as a template again.

Looking the goods! Nice flex for a stockie ;-)

Yeh with the longer shocks still sitting on the garage floor, that rear shot must have been taken just before it lifted the rear tyre huh.

So spoke to Outback Accessories about the rock sliders and rear bar. Turns out they are waiting for a donor car for the P38. But the wait might be a little as they have a few other car models booked in before.

SO anyone in WA that is in a position to be the donor car for us in need of rock sliders and rear tube bar???? I'm not keen in driving from Sydney to Perth to be the donor car :o

I'd do it if I had enough time off and they paid fuel for me to drive there!

I need an excuse to see the high country!

I'd even leave their sticker on my car as advertising if they paid for me to drive over there to be the guinea pig :p

They were supposed to call me when they were ready.

I might have the money in the new year and then they can use mine. They also used mine for the xrox front bar.

I will call them on monday

You'd think they'd do it for nix seeing as they will get sales revenue from it...

Well that is possible they might still call but the lady checked her books and said there were no P38 on the list of cars coming in so said it I'll be a wait until one gets booked in.

It was actually about 2 weeks ago I asked but didn't think of it again until today.

But maybe they are only looking at pootrols, Playdo's and other more common models... But she seemed to sound like they were waiting.

Hoping to hear some good news on Monday. Also hoping they at least give you cost price for being the template.

Of course there's no 38's coming in. They all want a product that the need a car to come in so they can develop it. Once developed they will come. If you build it they will come?

Hey intheozone. Did you end up calling Outback accessories? Any feedback on sliders or rear bar? Thanks, Peter.

Given that it's taken over 6 months to make a replacement bar end for my D2 I wouldn't hold my breath
