View Full Version : idling troubles - no not my state of mind!

I've got a problem that's starting to do my head in.

It's been like it since I bought the car but always thought I'd be easy to fix.
The idle stepper motor seems to have no control over the idle, and I keep getting the faults 'idle control motor open circuit and short circuit'.

I've replaced the steeper motor, and by blocking of the port and holding it in my hand whilst the engine is running is moving in and out, and pulls the plunger all the way home when it's turned off.

I set the base idle last night to 720rpm, and even with the idle motor on 0 steps it wouldn't pull it down.

Itll idle okay after 30 seconds of running, but there's no way it'll start and idle without the throttle.
Wiring continuity is perfect as well.

Noted also that the calculated toque load at idle is 34percent at idle and 18percent at 2500....
Just not sure.
