Dear all,
I had the oppurtunity to crawl underneath an SVX 90 in the place where my car is parked to further understand the vehicle.
I noticed a rectangular silver box on the left of the gear box , mounted on the chassis with 4 pipes connected to it, at the 4 corners.
Can anyone tell me what that is?
At the back the differential has no half shafts left and right to the wheels, is that different to the 110?
Also the alternater is mounted quite far down...will that cause problems when the vehicle is sort of immersed under water?
Thanks:p

Hi Becat, I can't help you with the silver box but the suspension should be the same as the 110. The low mounting for the alternator is only a problem if you park in deep water. The waterproofing should be adequate for river crossings etc. Cheers, 130man

An actual SVX 90 in Australia...? Must be a private import as they were only sold in the UK and a very few in South Africa if I recall correctly.
The SVX 90 is no different mechanically from any other 90. Same as the SVX 110 it is only trim that is different with a few unique extras, including the fact that the SVX 90 is available in a soft top. (see my avatar)
Land Rover Defender 90 SVX 2.4 TDCI Station Wagon - Land Rover Defender Icon (http://www.defendericon.com/land-rover-defender-sale/80/land-rover-defender-90-svx-24-tdci-station-wagon/)
What you saw is most probably a D44 fuel cooler guard fitted to the vehicle (silver box with 4 pipes).
The observation about the back axle is confusing though as they have standard rear axles same as all 90's... Even the brand new LXV (65th Special Edition) has only specific trim and colours.

Below is a link to an Overfinch "upgrade" to the SVX 90 for a bit of drool value...

A) Fuel cooler.
B) Whisky Tango Foxtrot?
C) Not in any material sense in my experience.
