hi to all recently about 3 months ago i had the head gasket go on my 98 300tdi replaced radiator, head, hoses, thermastate ,etc . today on my way home from work i noticed the temperature gauge had gone up to maximum. i pulled straight over and on opening the hood noticed coolant overfowing from the expansion tank i managed to get home and noticed water seems to be leaking from the bottom of the radiator. my question is can a cracked or leaking radiator give the same symptoms as a blown head gasket or has the head gasket gone again hopefully not the water seems to fill up the expansion tank on filling of the radiator any help appreciated

When it cools, put in some more coolant, and leave the lid off the expansion tank.

Start engine.

Give the engine a few revs and put your hand over the lid of the coolant tank, and see if you can feel any pressure building up.

If you get pressure on your palm, then I'm going to vote for head gasket problems.....

Hope it is something else!

You can pick the idle up to around 2k with the cap off for a few mins.
Then see if the water level has stayed the same.
If it dose & no pressure appears to be going into the tank all should be good.
As long as you did'nt cook it on the drive home.
