Got a letter last week from the guys at Romsey advising that, after 15 years of being known as 'Romsey Land Rover Service Centre' they are now no longer allowed to use the name 'Land Rover' in their name. From the 1st July they are now known as 'Romsey British Automotive'.

Apart from the name change and a shuffle around of the workshop and office, all other facets of the business will remain the same.

Phone number and great service stay the same.

This isn't the only example of Land Rover getting precious about their name recently either...

Cheers - Gav.:)

Yeah it's world wide. The mob in Utah that sold me my Detroit locker got the same demand from LR, they were called Great Basin Rover now GBR!

Wonder when Inc will have to change the forum name...

Australian precious (or petty if you prefer) British automobile owners. Or AUPBAO

EDIT: That's the British automobile company who are precious/petty, not their owners.... Well, some of us aren't :p

I remember LR doing a similar thing to lots of the independent places back in the UK when BMW bought them.
Lots of little garages went from being "Joe Blogs Land Rovers" to "Joe Blogs 4x4"

It wont bother them , they just want you to pay them for the use of there name or badge . Doesn't matter how big or small. Back when BMW boght Rover they came to Brisbane Motor Show & he guys selling regailer were told to remove the Rover badges, if they didn't BMW had the police come in & close them down. All they see is the dollars now . They stoped Veronica Lamond selling her childrens books on Landy because she had drawings if L/R's in it , but they don't see the children of today are the buyers of tomorow.:BigThumb:

Stupid action by LandRover, IMHO.
You'd think that having their name on various business's etc would be good for P.R./advertising the brand etc?
Cheers, Pickles.

I can remember siteing the letter that the then owners of Landrover Land received from BMW,not overly polite,it was then changed to British Off Road.

Been dealing with that business since the days of it being "Fane's Landrover"

cheers

Old \ New Romsey Land Rover Customers...

Now, Romsey British Automotive

Since changing the name we have found a few customers jumping on the net to look up the number and booking their car in. Unbeknown to them there is a fake website with our old name all over it, booking cars in!!

Luckily because so many customers have been with us for so long they brought the car to its usual place to drop it off for the day, dropped the keys in and left.

This car wasn't booked in today?
We looked weeks ahead and behind in our diary nothing.......

After some phone calls and some detective work found that the owner had booked the car in with another company claiming to be Romsey Land Rover.
