That mini prime mover isn't what I expected when I opened the thread that for sure! I think it's bloody excellent though ... must be hard to sell something you've put that much time and effort (and money probably) into!

The only way to make a series less aerodynamic.

It's certainly unique... If he was to change that front wheel trim, tack a second axle on with some neatly made alloy guards and a miniature turntable it'd really complete the job!

Was on Fraser Island 20 or so years ago and saw a Toyo that had been made into a "look-a-like" prime mover,, really well done from what I could see.

Do we know more about the designation of the S3 above? Similar to a S2b but less FC.

I'd love either the tractor (are thbey portalled or just different axles?) or the pair of tracked ones, there was also a hovercraft built out of a S2a (thinks?) it's pictured in the Land Rover: Workhorse of the World publication. Getting harder to find these days, but I picked up 2 brand new on the bay, as did I get the Camel Trophy Land Rover years DVD.

I guess that the one with the tractor wheels is an adaptation of the drivers used by the Hounslow company which adapted this type of wheels for the Forestry Commission back in UK
They used Studebaker axles with GKN-Kirkstall planetary hubs.
Do a search for Land Rover Roadless 109 and see if something with info come about.

Can't really add a great deal to what's although as far as I'm aware all the FT/6's were 4 cylinder vehicles, along with the very few IIA FC based FT/7's.

Six Cylinder engines were however in all variants of IIB FC Appliences, and the Series III based ones built by Bates of Evesham for various Northern Ireland fire brigades.

There were a few variations to the FT/6 body (asides the front end panel work) with some being 4 man crew pumps, and others being 2 man crew with larger equipment storage lockers and possibly no pump.

Charming vehicles, although not quite as butch as the IIA/IIB or 101 FC's.

And for whoever mentioned the Judge Dredd trucks:

Scratches, gouges, burns from rusted bolts and other impossible to reach parts. Assorted other changes to the body including receeding hair in some areas and increased growth in others. Usually from late cold nights spent outside working on the things. Can be in conjunction with increased alcohol consumption, beard growth, persistent blackened fingernails.

Maybe series 3 looking at hinges?

I wonder how it went... story goes that the vehicle was registered!!!
(what as would be interesting) and bought for the engine and box.

It was put in here because I think it fits perfectly in with this thread!

My mate doesnt actually own this property (my mistake earlier) but is getting ready to clear it for someone who is in hospital and not at all likely to ever come out. Theres a few rangies (2 doors) a s3 lwb (with holden power) and a series or two tucked about... I'm interested in a s1 that may have the tray I need to be able to get on with my '56 S1. Will have to arrange to have a look.

Not Rangie Chassis, too long, 110 County I would say at a guess, possibly a V8 but would have to see engine mounts, could possibly be a Izusu 4BD1 unit, they were popular with farmers in the 80's, 83---89/90 they were replaced with 200TDI motor and called Defender :) the civilian Izusu Counties proofed the Perentie for production. 200-250+ for ADI plate requirements.

Absolutely is a Rangie chassis, The RR body mounts are a giveaway, totally different to LR body mounts, The RR chassis has been cut off aft of the rear spring mounts and the rear couple of feet of a LR chassis has been welded on.

thats how I made my 90

still looks 100" to me

The exhaust system points to Rangie too... Just after the rear spring mounts, you can see the join of the chassis extension. I'd b interested to know more! :)

In the side shot the front hatch is the pantry & the rear hatch is the slide out fridge. The owners must have thought I was a nutter as I was in my Asian 'tilley waving for them to pull over!

It's a Dutch thing, specifically a tax dodge...
not sure if it's done on overall vehicle height, or internal volume, but it came about so as the base vehicle ended up.in a cheaper taxation class.

Hideous example of poor engineering and throwing money at something to try and make it right.
It can't turn corners in a low traction environment, and whilst it is actually 8x8 the rear axles are all daisy chained together.

It's currently being rebuilt with a 24 valve 6 cylinder cummins engine and the wheelbase between the front and rear axles being extended to 127".
Proof that money doesn't buy sense, whilst the owner gets very aggressive when you make comment about it being a stupid idea.
He has twice invited me to Land Rover shows so he can kick the **** out of me.

Maybe I'll go to one next year and say hello just to see his reaction?

So it's not a camper conversion?

No, it's how the new owner of the hut moved it to his property up the road. The hut is the old Teachers Hut from Licola. It was knocked off its foundations during the mud slide that hit the town a few years back. It was considered uneconomical to repair, so a local (who has a lot of Landies) asked if he could remove it to put on his property, which he did.

Gav, I heard that the local council refused permission for the building to be placed on the property as a permanent fixture. Mounting it on the FC circumvented that as it was not classed as a permanent structure. Any truth?

Very probably. I haven't been down to his property since it was moved years ago. I saw it disappear down the track he lives on. Nothing would surprise me where this gentleman is concerned.

The ad wording

1970 LAND ROVER
IT'S A BEAST : IT'S IMPOSING : IT'S HUGE : IT'S UGLY :
WHAT THE HELL IS IT ??
These are a few of the more printable questions i've had regarding the old beasty since i bought her !
I know one thing is there's not another like her, someone has spent hour upon hour to create this individual Land Rover which wont suit everybody, (possibly nobody) but please make sure you have permission from your better half to park this on your driveway and scare the neighbours before bidding.
Ok, where do i start ?
It has an MOT until 3rd December 2016.
It is registered as a historic vehicle so no road tax to pay.
It is solid, no structural rust underneath, the chassis extension has been properly done some years ago to give it a 135" wheelbase.
It has been fitted with a 6 cylinder Rover engine, has free wheeling hubs and overdrive. I have not been brave enough to venture out onto the open road but the driveway at the farm and the field was enough to know its not for me due to the 'popeye' arms required to turn the wheel when wanting to park.
I believe the internal rear pick up bed used to tilt but not sure if it still can, the whole roof has also been built so it would slide back giving open top motoring for the whole family but again it would need looking at again before opening ! Hand painted at some point in battleship grey but chipped paint shows green below. Both front wings are damaged and need replacing/repairing see pictures.
The interior is a work of art but depends if you prefer Picasso or Hirst ?
Fully trimmed luxurious seats in the rear with central armrest and the matching front seats with tilting mechanism so as to access the rear seating but be aware that you need to be narrow in the hips to climb through. The whole dashboard and rollcage frame is also covered in the same material. Loads of thoughtful touches inside so please check out the pictures in detail.
It runs and drives and you will need a large turning area to fully appreciate the meaning of the words 'three point turn'. I've seen oil tankers turn quicker.
A couple of the tyres need replacing due to age/perishing so although it has an MOT until December these really need changing before a journey.
She measures just over 18'0" long from bumper to bumper and i dont like to think about her weight so make sure your recovery man knows what he is getting into regarding collection.
Any questions please ask away, cash on collection within 7 days please.

A farmer in Somerset would... As back in the 90's Perenties were made of unobtainum and certainly not available in the UK. This was actually a really usable nice truck to drive. It now resides in The Falklands. :)
