Hi all, as many will know, Michael2 and his family are on a 6 week road trip. He left fully equipped with every spare you can think of, including a second kitchen sink.

They are currently in FNQ, at Thornton Beach, on the sealed road South of Cape Tribulation, limping slowly towards Port Douglas with a collapsed front right outer wheel bearing.

He needs an outer front wheel bearing for a Defender 110. Is there anyone close by, who can assist with a bearing, or who knows of somewhere that he can get one reasonably local to where he currently is or is heading?

Thanks

I've just called Michael and I have spares here. He's going to let me know if he can't find some locally, in which case I'll express post these to him where ever he lands.

FYI, part required is STC4382, Timken cone: #LM603049, Timken cup: #LM603011, set: #SET37.

I have sent this to Michael by SMS.

Thanks again. Your signature doesn't show your location. How long would they take to get to him...?

Awesome work thanks mate

I've met Michael a long time back and he helped me out, so more than happy to return in kind. That's why I like this place. :D

I'm in Sunbury, Victoria. Express Post's national network for next day delivery doesn't cover Port Douglas where he's headed, but it will be there in a couple of days. Just heard from Michael and he wants them posted to him.

If you've got them, send a pair of bearings as the inner will have had a hard time with the outer collapsed.
A new hub seal would be ideal if you happen to have one of those....

Turns out I've put Michael in touch with a business who can supply directly rather than having to pay for parts plus two lots of post (the second post cost being to replenish my spares locally). He's ordered his bits and they're on the way.

Thanks for everyone's helpful calls.

I had a 'death wobble' and stopped to check. I found the RH wheel bearing loose and thought I could just tighten it, but it wouldn't tighten further. I pulled out the outer and it collapsed, never mind, I'll fit a spare - but the spare was too small, I,d already used one of the spares in the 'kit' so the kit must have been off a Series Land, where the inner and outer are different sizes.

I thought I'd be stranded with no bearing in the wheel and managed to get phone reception by walking to the beach. Thanks to Winaje for posting for me. I managed to get the rollers back in the cage and reassembled using the same bearing. I nursed it 70km to Port Douglas, and ordered a replacement and spare set on the way thanks to macman. As it turned out the auto shop in Mossman had two bearings in stock, so I can repair it tomorrow and have the spares arrive in a day or two.

Thanks again everyone.

Glad you'll be back on the road without any more interruption (than usual)

Hi Michael,

I am down the road an other 45k in Clifton Beach, if you get stuck. I have a paddock you can set up camp on if waiting for any other parts. Have fun up North.

Cheers,

Ken

Thanks again everyone.

You realise that this probably means you will never, ever need another set of wheel bearings. :D
