Hello All,
A discrepency has arrisen when trying to get a QLD roadworthy.
The mechanic took the engine number from the service manual (a 13 digit numeric code) but it is different to the engine number (12 digit alpha numeric) in the documentation issued by the dealer in NSW. We have yet to confirm the actual number from the engine which will happen tomorrow in workshop. My question is how many digits are the engine numbers? are they alpha numeric?? I have a 2005 Disco 3 V8 HSE. Also where is the number on the block?? I am thinking the service manual is a typo (its hand written) and the engine is original but just to prove this how can I find out the engine number from original build? Topix does not state an engine number with the VIN.
Any help/advice much appreciated.
Kind regards

The V8 engine number is under the passenger's side engine mount, it's near on impossible to see. When I brought my RRS over from the UK and registered it here in VIC they just took it off my registration documents, it's way too hard to see it.

Just an update.
After speaking with the sales manager of the the dealership (Trivetts- very helpful) whom originally sold the vehicle he confirmed the engine number in the service manual is not correct and the engine number in the documentation from the dealer I got it from is correct. It would appear the original sales guy made a mistake in the manual!!! Just a conformation required from the mechanic tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if he can see it without too much effort. Why would they make it so hard to read such an important piece of information???

The one in Parramatta. Hard to believe i know but he was most efficient in looking through his records. He gave me 5 mins of his time over the phone and clarified my concern so I was happy.
