Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone can suggest what sort of things I should be asking when considering a S3 S1 4BD1 on eBay.
I have not bought a car before sight unseen so I wondering if anyone had any tips generally, as well as specifically to this model.
I intend to use the car as a farm vehicle, so it getting rego is not an immediate concern (if it all).
Additionally, does anyone have any idea how much (roughly) to transport it from Sunshine Coast, QLD to Tamworth, NSW?
It looks like a nice, clean example - please feel free to bid me out of contention (my max is 2.5K) :) I'd hate to see it go to waste at a wrecker or something.
If anyone is interested the ad is as follows:

How good are you with a welder and how do you feel about Chassis repairs
Looks like there is a fair bit of rust in that Chassis(last pic) and not in the normal places which makes me wonder a bit about the rest of it. I'd be asking more about that before bidding any more than what the motor and drive train is worth
mine needs more work than that in the body but at least the chassis is sound and it's rego'd
But things I would check
more photos of the chassis around that rust
photos of the firewall in both footwells
photos of the door tops and door pillars
does it charge at the correct voltage(Everything looks in place in the photo but mine is giving me issues trying to figure out why it's over volting
does it engage both low and high range and does it jump out of gear(hard to tell without testing it)

Regards transport, the paying load is northbound so you should be able to easily find an empty southbound flat top, drop deck, pan etc. I run a roadtrain perth to pilbara and Kimberly and we charge backfreight vehicles what it would cost u in fuel to drive it the same distance, provided its not out of my way to pickup, can be driven or lifted on in 10 mins, same off, (in other words no stuffing about) otherwise you pay dear. I would be asking particularly about the front CV joints, as they are particular to the Stage 1 and it being a 4BD1, which has a lot of torque, but they were unique to Australia and they were the proofing(ADR qualifying) of the Army Perenties (which are being auctioned off at the moment) if you don't need a traytop think about an ex-army 110 same motor and LT95 constant 4x4 gearbox assy straight from the Range Rover :) all the rest is Series/110 Landrover with known rust spots.
Kinda looks like an ex-beach fishing truck,(beach net hauling mullet etc.)
cheers
