I assume you mean pushing the little switch to the lo with a picture of the mountain position and turning the terrain response dial to something other than off, and shifting to off road height :-)

If you select the correct position on the rotary dial, you don't even have to select off road height !

True that, although Wellll, sometimes for some positions. Sometimes it also needs Llams or rods, but that's a whole other story.

I don't know what its like now, as the last I heard was that it was closed, but one was Cabbage Tree Lane just out of Richmond.

The other favourite was Rope Rd in the Watagans, always a great drive.

In terms of high alert levels was the now closed Winch break pass.

For a bit of harmless fun it would be the tracks behind ZigZag at Lithgow but if you want some pucker factor try the butt crack in the middle of the Spanish Steps (at your own risk!) or what we call "Matts Track" which is off to the left on the way from Bungleboori to the Lost City.

Getting back on topic,

The Cobberas and MacFarlane Flat track in the Vic High Country would have to be up there.

So pretty challenging sections, awesome scenery and the changing conditions of the high country make this a cracker.

Actually almost anywhere in the High Country is fun and challenging.

So so many to choose from. For eight hours on one track Britannia ridge track out the back of Warburton. Further a field and also a bit of a challenge is Cotton break track out the back of Bruthen. Hunted stream track is another that is a good drive near Dargo. A track just before the summit of Mt Tingaringy on the left as you go up. Great track, long, remote as you can get in Victoria and no sissy switch backs.

When I read the title I figured it referred to (offroad) track.

Hi All,

Whats your favourite track for Shifting the Little Stick to the "L" position..?

However the OP's post makes it sound like shifting preference for LT230s - e.g. some people prefer to shift in H, S, 5 or 8 gate patterns.

This was reinforced b all the facetious posts by the pretend 4x4 owners :D :wasntme:

Slunnie, I wondered if the butt track was actually driveable, i've walked a couple of the obstacles but never tried it! Looks fairly insane...
I reckon you need to come on a drive with Wayne, Brendan and co and get your tyres dirty for a change :D

Pheasant Creek track would be one of the best I have done for consistent descent / ascent, it just keeps going down to the creek / campsite and then you have a couple of pretty steep ks straight up
The beginning of the descent

Yes, that's the track going up the other side......

It is a bit crazy. Matt from Equipe popped up it locked in his Defender, I think Tusker may have also driven it. I tried to do it all unlocked on roadies until things got a bit too untidy when I spun the rears into the crack. It is driveable though. The TTers ever so kindly call it Slunnies crack now. :(

You're right though! I think the only times I use low range, lockers and the winch these days is getting unbogged in the paddock! :lol2:

Pork Chop Hill just a few K's South of Batemans Bay springs to mind, done it once, never again, make a mistake and get sideways and you're dead, I get chills just thinking that I was stupid enough to have a go, see if I can find a pic, other than the one in my Avatar, Regards Frank.

For me it is still Wirraba Ridge.Nothing I have done since has given the continual thrill and sense of achievement as this place.I have driven and seen the other "hard tracks" and while some have some lovely hard sections, they don't have the really hard sections continually for km after km.I have driven this track in everything from a willys Jeep to an LJ 50 and LJ 80 Suzuki to a Series 2 and 2a Land Rover to the Hi Lux pictured.I was a shattered man when I found they had closed it.Our record was 3 days to travel 8km with 4 broken Landies working from dawn until well into the night......no lockers in those days:D......Priceless memories:eek:

I must also apologise for the poor quality of the pic. as it is a scan of a photo taken in 1986.

Just awesome. Thanks for the pics. Wirraba is one of those tracks that have gone down in history with quite a reputation. I'm not sure that I ever would have driven it, but it looked to be a mean nother. Here is a pic taken in 2007 from Paulio, one of CAL415's mates.

I think Tough Truck has a course now called Mini Wirraba doesn't it?

I don't think I have a favourite to be honest. I tend to enjoy wherever I am on the day for what it is on the day

Drovers Ridge went from Yalwal Creek near its junction with Ettrema Creek across the top of Shoalhaven Gorge through to Tolwong.

Dads understanding was it was originally used to train the Army tank drivers. Last he heard somebody had blown some of it up, either to make it more interesting/or difficult he's not sure.
Yep, Tough Truck has Mini Wirraba, a rock section, funnily enough :p

The Mt Wirraba track was built to service the airfield that was built in there during Ww2 as an auxiliary for Richmond in the event it got bombed. When I was a kid it wasn't as bad as it looked in that pic above.

I've never heard of tracked vehicles using it, but the official name for the track is "The Army Road", and was frequently used for heavy vehicle training. I know 2 blokes that used to drive the track in Studebakers in the 60's in the CMF.

There is, or were, the wrecks of (at least) 2 Studebakers in the area, but they are Bush Fire Brigade vehicles, not Army.
