Hi All
I am looking at a 1996 Defender 130 and would like a bit of direction on what to look for.

It has done just under 200k with a fair bit of service history.
It has had a replacement head, injectors, glow plugs, upgraded suspension done recently, with quite a lot of other work as well.

The owner does not know about the Cam belt so I am going to assume it needs doing unless I find evidence it has been done, are there special tools required for this or can I do it my self?

I have done quite a bit of searching here on the forum and find a lot of reference to Axle flanges what do I need to be checking?

The car is in Perth and I am in Adelaide so I am trying to do as much research as possible before going to look.

If all is well we will need to have the car transported back from Perth, does anyone have any recommendations/ experiences with transport companies.

Any advice anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Phil

G'Day Phil,

I have a 96 defender, its been very reliable with about 410,000 km. The repairs you mention is about what I have done, except the injectors.
The rear wheel flanges have been problematic, don't bother with the cheap option. Buy the genuine Maxi Drive (called something different now).
To check the axle flanges pop the rubber cap, have someone turn the tail shaft you will soon see if the flange is worn.

I transported a D3 from Perth a couple of years ago. The company details are at work. PM me and I will forward them to you on Monday. The Company I used parked the car in a shipping container. No issues and much cheaper than some of the other companies I spoke to. If you have any spares or other stuff travelling with the car make sure you ask about this. Some companies don't allow anything in the car.

Regards
Andrew

Thanks for the info, sounds like the axle flanges are something I need to check.

The amount of K's yours has done gives me confidence.

PM sent re transport

Thanks
Phil
