Hi Folks.

I've been here all day :D loving all the pictures of rides people have and the great adventures they've been on.

Anybody out here have the same model as mine and made any modifications to the dash to make it a bit more functional?

I have a '93 Disco V8i 5 door. 3.9L

I'm interested in fitting a few gauges (battery, temp, etc.) and would really appreciate any info on where they've been fitted on others.

Lastly if anyone has found a good aftermarket cup holder I can easily fit somewhere in the car.. lol. something that looks like it should be part of the car, or easily removable / hidden

any info at all would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 93 Disco, 3.5lt, which dash does yours have, the early or later one..

You can attach disco2 can holders on either side of the transmission tunnel, not cheap to buy new but wreckers sometimes have some, ebay certainly does. The original one in mine is long gone. Brittle plastic that gave up on the center window switch console was replaced with aluminium sheet and plywood.

If it is the later dash then you can buy NAS cupholders which screw on to the centre console. Still available new. $95 from linn rover in WA.

Being a 93 I suspect you'll have the earlier dash so they may not work.

Do those not have the push-to-open can holders that comes out of the dash?

without all the kit on the top,
this is the dash I have. (attached)

no - does not come with cup holders already, I've sherlocked the whole thing, pressing panels, looking for secret switches :D

single bloke, and kind of hard to get the dog to hold my beer. (He keeps drinking it on me the sneaky bugger).

lol.

Yep that is the early dash, so you will be limited in what you can do.

Maybe go to your local spare parts chain store and see if they have anything that works. There are a lot of options now for earlier vehicles which didn't have cup-holders.

Alternatively you could see if the NAS cupholders sold as an accessory for the update D1 (late 94 onwards?) and D2 (see attached pic) can be adapted to fit. Colour match may be an issue as they only come in light and dark beige, grey, black and a green grey.

Cheers

or just get these from a marine shop or ebay (they'll be cheaper than from BCF probably)

(or any of the numerous variations thereof)

and screw them on somewhere convenient.

I ordered a new D1 MY94 3.9 (sepentine) in November 1993. The two genuine accessories I ordered with it were the Hard Centre Console Cubby Box and the genuine Landrover Cup Holder.

When the car was delivered in January 1994 it was delivered without the cup holders and I received them a week later with it was my intention to get it installed at the first service but as I found out the updates were coming I was able to sell the car what I paid for it and ordered an update.

The cupholder looked something like this Range Rover one Cup Holder - In Dash (Plastic) (Genuine Part # LRN32685 (36)) - Land Rover cup holders from Atlantic British (http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/LRN32685G.cfm)

However instead of the moulding at the rear it had a hinge arrangement - I assumed it was mounted either in the cubby box or at the rear of the cubby - but I never found out - certainly not obvious anywhere else on the dash.

I bought two of these for under $20 from local Road Tech Marine and bolted to back of cubby box. They work a treat and are the large ones so I can even use them to hold my flask. Don't have a picture handy, but could post if anyone is interested. Will probably return for smaller ones to mount to door over ashtrays. These will be perfect for tinnies.

No the 93 will have the " Beautiful " Jasper Conran designed dash with no cup holder.

I have the same problem on my disco so feel his pain.
I put in a cheap supercheap one but have bought some land rover ones which are on their way.

I got some ones that hook into the window on the door, I got them in Walmart in America, but I reckon I saw them here recently, they got heaps of milage on them when I was in the UK.

How are you Reads90, haven't seen you around on any of the forums for a while, but not massively active either :)

Oh, apparently super cheap sell very similar ones http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/SCA-Drink-Holder-Black.aspx?pid=3852#Cross

I hear you !
10 day easter break for 3 days leave... I'd love to have hit a big trip, but have some other stuff going on which means we might actually only have 5 or 6 days, so we are going to put some miles on the disco and get out for a nice camping trip..
