Hi Just thought I would let everybody know a cheap option for sound proofing. I was shopping at Aldi's the other day and saw they were selling yoga mats for about $16. Three of them completely covered all floor surfaces ,including under seat storage boxes of my 96 130. Don't care about Db readings,I just know it worked. Took me a couple of hours and all I needed was a tape and some scissors. Joel.

There is a comprehensive post on this forum and covers dynamat, Eva foam etc.
Did it make any worthwhile difference in sound deadening? Any chance you can post some photos.
Cheers

Yeah IMO I think it made a difference. I will try and get some photos during the week. I will have to rely on my teenage son to get the photos posted. I am not very tech savvy.

you didn't have any issues with how thick the foam was messing with the fit of your matts or anything?
I added some dunlop carpet underlay to the floor in my puma, slight difference in sound and heat, mad the floor mats a bit more 'movable' though so I may need to glue it down.
Interested in all these sound deadening options. . . Id like to hear myself think when I drive :|

Those mats are usually Eva foam. Very good for a middle layer.

No. The foam is about 8mm thick. It is very sponged but seems really dence.

;-) I bought the same mats! bargain for the price. They also seem quite heavy duty, plan to use it for the wheel arches in the back of my 110.
How did you stick it down? I'm planning on using the heavy duty double sided tape that Aldi sold a few weeks ago.

would this be better than carpet underlay?
as I have enough carpet underlay to sink a battleship, but If I am better off putting these foam matts under my rear draws I am building (trying to stop the machine gun noise while driving on a dirt road :| ) I might go get some.

Carpet underlay holds moisture whereas the sealed cell doesn't ( dose trap it underneath though) something to watch if you use underlay , especially if yours leaks like mine lol..

I don't like getting wet, so hopefully leaking will not be an issue, as I know I have exceeded LR recommended wading depth but I don't do through water above the sills (yet/hopefully will not have to ever, but something tells me I will eventually have to)
as far as sound deadening properties go though which is better? dense foam?

I only stuck it on the vertical surfaces, like behind rear seats and sides of stowage boxes. I just used blobs of silicon. If you cut it slightly bigger than needed it seems to squish into place and be fairly self supporting.
