tamworth-sydney on dirt

Hi one and all, in around 3-4 weeks i shall be collecting a new 90 from Fossey's in Tamworth, my plan is to drive back home to sydney using dirt roads etc as much as possible over two,maybe 3 days.I want to arrive home with a dirty 90 rather than a shiny one.I admit it has a few things to do with neighbours and its first appearance at "the office" but having a fun trip home getting used to the car is top of the list. Any suggestions good , bad or plain silly greatly rec'd.. cheers...

If you can get to Nundle head through Hanging Rock and take the Nundle to Scone road (MR105) head across via Barry Stn, along the Barnard River, it's all dirt and very picturesque (provided there hasn't been a lot of rain) there are a lot of (shallow) river crossings, you could then head across the Barrington area towards Newcastle, but from there I think you would pretty much be stuck on the blacktop.

sounds like a goer, i have a mate in Dungog who gets off road a bit,will chat to him about the Barrington Tops area , cheers Bushie

Instead of running straight down the F3 once you reach Newcastle, take a detour and travel down the range to the west of the F3, Starting at Mt Sugarloaf then along Sugarloaf Range, a little bit of blacktop around Freemans Waterhole then head to the hills again and run down through the Watagans.
If you still haven't had enough dirt (& possibly mud) head west to Bucketty and come down through St Albans and Wisemans Ferry.

You can also get to Hanging Rock via the back of Kootingal to Dungowan/Ogunbil Rd over Pt Stephens cutting and Nundle Forest Rd, then take Bushies directions.

Or travel to Nundle on the western side of the Peel River accessed via Calala/O'briens Lane.
