Hi Everyone,

This is my first post however I have been reading / researching for quite a while and really enjoy the site...

Anyway long story shot, my wife and I are looking to tour Australia and hit tracks like the old telegraph track ect... I have always owned a 4x4 (navara and hilux) and have fair amount experience camping (3 times per year for the last 15 years at least) To be honest tho my 4x4 experience has mainly been the occasional wet track on one of the few properties I visit, so fairly limited.

After countless hours of research I have narrowed my choices down to a Defender 110 (2010 +) or a 70 series cruiser wagon. Im not here to ask which is best as I have already found countless articles. However feel free to weigh in if you have anything to offer.

My question is; How difficult are spares for the defender to get accross Australia? more specifically remote places? obviously freight can be difficult no matter what make, but are land rover that much harder / longer to get spares than Toyota?

Obviously Toytota have more dealers than Land Rover, HOWEVER no matter where the car goes to be fixed then the parts are ordered and freighted in. It's a myth toyota have parts, and from what I can gather from various internet stories, toyota's supply line can be quite slow.

I can say from my experience the Land Rover warranty is superb. Around town or out woop woop. They have never haggled over what has broken, instead they have just fixed it. Sometimes I report an issue, sometimes they find one. I sometimes take photos or even phone a head when remote and the part is there waiting to be fitted when I get into town.

Go to LR Australia and have a look over the location of dealerships, that may help you with the decision as well. Actually all you need is one or two quality land rover shops in the phone and they will post the correct part anywhere in the blink of an eye.

I'll second Jason's reply.

Best parts suppliers in S.E.Qld would be M.R.Autos and British Off Road and both will post stuff anywhere in the world,as for Aust Post that is in the lap of the gods

cheers

A number of Land Rover service centres (non franchised) also offer a spares service in that they will supply a selection of parts ie filters, wheel bearings, seals, brake and clutch master cylinders, belts etc for a fee (some supply gratas such as MR) You take these with you and if returned in as presented condition there is no further charge.

As Jason has pointed out, most of these centres will post anywhere in Australia also.
