I'm guessing when you say 'Cold' your talking Queensland cold, and not Victoria cold...:D. It's been getting down to well below zero a lot in the last week. Mine has been needing plenty of choke recently to fire, but that will remedy itself once Winter loosens it grip on things.
Hope you find the answer soon - Gav.:)

And for the weather, few cool mornings so far, but only one icy one. 2 weeks back we were at 0.1 degree at 6.30, made for fun trying to find something to scrape the ice off the windscreen to get to work.

Ho Har was thinking stripped drive flanges. Have you checked that out first.
Gearbox seems unlikely. See if the driveshaft is driving in 2 wheel drive .
If its still driving its got to be down the back. Put a load on it with the handbrake.

Drive flanges are fine, so is the diff center. hh called our LR man and he suggests the output shaft so hh is working on that now. I am off to work:)

Mrs HH,
For years my 101 has had trouble starting when cold - Canberra cold in winter means that early morning starts on gas are out of the question and petrol is hit and miss more often a miss. Keeping the carby dashpots topped up helps but is still an issue. Once temps start to get a but warmer all is OK but when cold very frustrating - nothing seems to have fixed it so I came up with a little solution that works great.
I got a rubber tubeless tyre valve stem (valve removed) and installed it in a hole on top of the tunnel next to the handbrake. I then ran a small piece of fuel pipe to a vacuum port under one of the carbs in the inlet manifold. So on starting in cold weather if there is no firing after a few turns of the engine I remove the valve cap, and take a can of "Start ya Bastard" that I carry on the dash nearby and give it a squirt down the valve stem with the plastic extension - no smell, no mess.
Leaving the choke off and leaving the valve cap off as well (so it will suck the brew into the engine) I fire it up. Usually fires but not runs - second squirt and she fires and runs - quickly put the valve cap on the richen the mixture and pull the choke to the cold run position (half out).
This works well and saves a lot of frustration though I only use if needed. There is nothing like a little "Start ya Bastard" to help make your day and make the bitch run (Miss Piggy that is).

Drove to work this morning and the gearbox was so sweet, best it has ever been:D

'zara' is back off the road again:(
Was running fine for 2 days then filled up with petrol at our local, now she runs like ****, I got home then went to the shop and she died down the road. hh towed me back home then she started beautifully, test run and died.
Have done the usual, checked filters, made sure fuel we getting to the carby.
hh is dumping the fuel out of her tomorrow and putting fresh in, from another Servo;) and will see how she runs.
Have rung said Service Station and was given a number to ring and lodge a claim:)
All done, have claim number, they want us to keep the fuel we drain out, told us they will check the Servo within 24 hours, and if contaminated fuel, we get our money back:D
Can't complain about the service so far:) Hoplefully they will follow through.
Mrs hh:angel:
P.S. Will name Servo when all sorted;)

You would want to get more than just your money back.
Lost time off work,
Getting towed etc.
Just to refund the purchase is getting off easy.
