It has been explained before, but it is probably one of those things that needs to be regularly brought to people's attention.

The best way to search for information on AULRO is to ignore the search facility at the top of the page and use the one on the bottom of the page at the left hand side.

Most people (maybe all people) find it more successful.

Or if you've already got another browser window/tab open (eg. using Chrome browser) just type "www.aulro.com [space] "your search terms" and it'll achieve the same thing. (Replace the web address for whatever you wish and you'll have a custom search for results on that website only).

The search feature you've highlighted opens the results into a new tab anyway so it achieves the same thing. Do they give the same results? I just did a test and they didn't...the plot thickens.

When I google search I use this method.

:site:aulro.com then I use either key words if I'm not sure of what I want or a specific phrase if I know the exact thread I want. Keeps it limited to aulro results.

all you have to do is just enter the following sequence in the google search window; nothing else :)

aulro: <search term>

the bottom left search window does exactly that....

Yes!

You have always been able to type things like:

superpro bushes site:aulro.com
or
aulro:superpro bushes
or
www.aulro.com superpro bushes
or
possibly even some variation on those.

However to help those who didn't know that or who couldn't remember the syntax, some time ago incisor added the "AULRO.com only" search down the bottom of the page so that all you had to do was type the word or phrase you were looking for.

Easy! Nothing to remember! And it works! :)

Hello VNX250,

I like using the advanced search feature located within the top drop-down search tag. This is because it allows you to limit the search to keywords, specific user-names and also things like searches only within Series 3 Land Rover forums + other limitations like date posted. The ability to limit the search normally produces specific information that I am after.

Kind Regards
Lionel

You can even ditch the :site: AFAIK. Works for me. I generally use Firefox or Chrome.

I must confess that there are a few times when I have also used some of the advanced features you mentioned.

Perhaps I should have said "the simplest way to search" rather than "the best way to search".

It seems that over the years people have often had trouble finding what they wanted with the original search feature. I'm not sure if that was because of unconventional spelling in the original post, unconventional spelling in the search, inability to think of the right word or phrase, or some peculiarity of the forum search feature.

On numerous occasions when people have complained that they searched and didn't find what they were looking for, I have tried a quick search using that one down the bottom and have never failed to find what the person said they were looking for.

Frequently people have mentioned that they were unaware of the existence of the one at the bottom of the page, so at least now a few more people know it exists. :)
