G'day All,

I am now showing my age - can anyone remember what year the old Department of Main Roads in NSW had advertisements on television that featured an owl with a mortar board on its head and I think an academic cape. The owl used to say "So you think you're a good driver! Try this quick quiz" Then the owl tapped the blackboard. This would be followed by an animated traffic scenario with car a labelled "A" and a car labelled "B" The owl would then ask which car you said should have given way. The correct answer would then be provided. I can remember the owl having perfect diction and posh annunciation. It might have even been in black and white.

I was reading something for work at uni where we are supposed to go out and engage the public - when I was reading the content I had an image flash in my mind of the owl.

So I wondered how long ago that campaign was on television and if the owl had a name? Or maybe I have just been eating a bad bit of cheese, Gromit and the picture of the owl was just some sort of interesting side effect.

Kind Regards
Lionel

Yeah I remember it. I recall it as black & white. Can't put an exact date on it but must have been late sixties or early seventies.

Cheers,
Jon

I can remember it in both Colour and black and white at a guess I'd say mid seventies. Was it on before the ABC news?

Regards,
Tote

G'day Tote,

That is right - once I read what you wrote I do remember it being on at a very routine time. It was just before the news! Thank you for the estimate of mid 70s

Kind Regards
Lionel
