Engine light on after installing spot lights

Hi all first post and first problem

ive got a disco 3 v6 petrol and after fitting a set of spot lights my engine light has come on and is staying on is this just coincidence or have i caused this?
other then connecting the pos and neg the only other wire i have touched is the left hand side high beam wire.

If you don't have a OBD device to check and clear the error code you could rest the vehicle by removing both battery leads and touching the leads, not the battery, together to discharge any remaining charge. This should clear the error code. Now see if it re-appears if it does time to find sme with a OBD tool to see that the error code is and go from there. A multitude of things could set a error code. good call on that! cleared the light now just get to see if it comes back on next time spottys are on.
can the obd tool bring up previous faults or just reset new ones?

From my knowledge, once they are cleared they are gone.

Im not sure how you have connected the lights power supply but if you connect the earth directly to the battery this can cause some errors, earths need to be picked up off the car body/chasis

Cheers had it connected to battery now have it on body and no further problems
