We have a Defender "90" on order. The color we ordered was Keswick Green with an Indus Silver roof.
Just been informed today that LandRover (U.K.)will not build a keswick Green Defender with an Indus roof?
I was just wondering if any of you guys would know the "right person" at JLR or a L.R. Dealer to see if this is true, & if so, why?
Thanks, Pickles.

That sounds stupid to me.... dont' they just paint a car and paint a roof and bolt it together??????

Land rover snobbery? - "Kenswick green and a silver roof, if we allow this abomination where will it end?" :o
I've seen different colour roof's on edition release land rovers but didn't think you could just mix and match.... any one else done this?
If you cant get that combo then go with Kenswick green and a classic white roof. Better IMO. But hey if you're dead set you could just unbolt the roof to have it sprayed what ever colour you want.

I'm afraid I agree with them, green and silver does not sound like particularly good combination.

Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but Keswick Green is a solid paint and Indus Silver is a metallic paint. Having said that - do those special edition Defenders with the black roofs have metallic black or solid black paint on the roof?
Personally, my pick would be Keswich Green with a White roof, especially for a 90. Not sure why I like it more on a 90 than a 110 or 130 but I do...

I agree, Keswick w/ white looks good to me. I actually saw a 110 with those colours yesterday, looked pretty good but not as good as the 90 :o :D

Saw a new defender in the storage lot at Austral that was dark green (galaway?) with a light silver roof. A little strange looking I thought.

Personally I think they've done you a favour... It would be much nicer with a white roof.. :)

The LEs have a santorini black roof which is metallic. Think you're onto something with this and they are objecting to mixing the two styles.

Well, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder", I guess. We thought (still do) the Indus Silver would have gone nicely with keswick, and also blended in well with some of the other bits of the "90"....wheels, silver chequerplate etc.
It would also have made our vehicle just that little bit different.
But it's no big deal really, and a Fuji white roof it will be.
Cheers, Pickles.

In the brochure they show what colour roofs can go with what colour body. Guessing their designers only allow certain colour schemes to maintain a certain look and feel for the colour.
Yes it would be cool if you could just choose whatever you want.

I noticed Austral in Brisbane have a Green 90 with a silver roof in the yard today. It is the Aintree Green however.
Looks great BTW.

Yes, in the brochure that I have, that combination is an option.

Why don't they do the roof side white as well, as they used to?
On another note, even if you said you'd take your money elsewhere they'd probably say don't let the door hit you on the way out.
FWIW: Your money, your choice.
Also, on Monday, we should all call up the dealer in question and ask the availability of 90's Keswick Green with an Indus Silver roof.

Why not get the roof re sprayed if that's what you really want?

gotta "abide by the rules"?.
Land rover provide you with the bones, once you have it there are no rules. Take the roof off and have it re-painted pink if you like, it'll probably cost you less than some of their factory options.

Customer service, hmmm.
If I was sitting on the other side of the desk if you wanted an Evoque, pink with orange mirrors, beige roof and green wheels I'd probably say "you're well suited to an Evoque" as I filled out the order form.
I was actually fired from work on Thursday for;
Taking too long serving a customer.
Not getting them to pay up front (I didn't even have an order).
Not following sales procedure (sit them down, ignore what they want, get payment, never follow up on order).
I also have a sickness or disease apparently that's preventing me from doing my job (operations manager) which includes purchasing, sales, receiving, picking and packing orders, deliveries, etc, etc, etc...

They cannot legally fire you for that (unless it's in a written contract and even then it's shady and hard to do).. I'm sorry to hear about your job loss, sounds like that particular dealership is not big on customer service.. thank god they aren't all like that!
*hugs*

Good news.
I wrote to the M.D. of Land Rover (Aus), & whilst I haven't had a personal response from him as yet, I have heard from the Customer Relations Dept, who have advised me that they have organized for our "90" to be built in the U.K. with an Indus roof...as a (in their words) "one off".
Whilst we were not losing any sleep over a Fuji roof, we do feel that the Indus will look pretty smart with the Keswick....we feel it will fit in with the alloy wheels, & other stuff on the car.
I'll put up some pics when it arrives....you guys can then make your own judgement....only 3 months to go?
Cheers, Pickles.

Good work Pickles. Glad you got the color you wanted. It will be a rare one of a kind.
Don't cross your fingers on getting it in 3 months if it hasn't been made yet though.

Keswick with black....I think that would look good too.
"3 months"?.....Well, when we ordered it was two months ago, so another three to go (five in total),.....scheduled build date is 3/9...hopefully all is "on schedule".
It's funny though, we've had a few other cars that have had special options on them, so have had to be "built", so accordingly with some "delay", but none of them has entailed such "anticipation" & impatience, as this vehicle.
Cheers, Pickles.

Well done Pickels2 - great to hear they decided to do the right thing.
I'm surprised (shows how utterly naive I can be) that the dealer didn't simply say "As this isn't a standard factory finish, I will get back to you with a quote" and then call the local spray shop to get it done post delivery.

Well yes, they could've done that, and in fact, our dealer ULR, actually said they could do that, but that was not satisfactory for us, because the build documentation from Solihull would not have shown an Indus roof.
I wanted it to be,"from factory", and show on the build papers as such, which will now be the case.
Cheers, Pickles.

As I noticed, on a "News" item on this Forum, initial strike action has just started at Jaguar Land-Rover's 3 U.K. sites.
As our "90" was scheduled to be built during the second week of September, this could not have come at a worse time, as I feel that if the issues are not quickly resolved, then our delivery wait will be longer than the 5 months we're already going to be waiting.
Not good, Pickles.
