View Full Version : What happened to the Yellow Bus??

Just got home from a great trip up to the corner country. I was sad to see (or not see) that the Yellow Bus is no longer there on the Cameron Corner road. Anyone know what happened to it? Was a terrific quirky landmark. (For those unfamiliar, a bright yellow double-decker London bus incongruously sitting next to a cattleyard many miles from anywhere in red sandhill country).

I was out there earlier this year and heard that they were ordered to get rid of it.

So yet another thing ruined by the morons. Terrific.
We had a great trip anyway, probably the worst behaviour we observed was evidence of people doing donuts on any patch of virgin sand adjacent to the track. We find that most people who take the trouble to travel in the remote areas are keen to do the right thing.

last weekend we drove the old Cobb & Co track through the Cambanoora Gorge , from Killarney to Boonah. A popular drive, a little bit of moisture around. On parts of the track, water had flowed across & collected on the downhill side, and some drivers had taken upon themselves to drive thru this, although the main track was perfectly good & reasonably dry. Of course, it resulted in deeply rutted & torn up sides of the track. At the end of the Gorge drive, is another 4WD track, to Boonah, good drive. Parks had closed & locked that track. Can only speculate why. :no2: Bob

I guess it became a bit of an eye-sore rather than an attraction. This picture was taken July 2011. .W.

I believe the sale of spray-cans is restricted to people over the age of 18; perhaps it should be IQ tested instead. What manner of person takes a can of spray paint with them when they go camping?

The same ones that do circle work in claypans and dried lakes etc, or push tracks up the sides of hills in NPs - they hide amongst us.

Apparently they buried it. As goingbush said, loosers leaving rubbish. The locals got tired of cleaning it up so remove the icon was the answer.
It's beyond me given where it is, why on earth would king dick have a spray can in the back of their car as well. Some people are just beyond words. But then again ARB Dubbo like to leave a ****en sticker on everything a well.

It had a bit of a turntable arrangement on the front axle and evidence of a drawbar having been attached, so was apparently towed into place when it was put there. Would be interesting to know the history of it prior to being a stock camp shelter, i.e. whether it had been some sort of mobile shelter.
I was very sad to find it gone. My dad, who died just a few weeks ago, was my travelling companion on previous trips through there. The phrase 'The Yellow Bus' would have us both grinning and thinking of those good trips.

I found this picture on a site about petroleum exploration. It looks very much like "The Yellow Bus" that used to be. .W.

I reckon you're right. On the yellow bus the frame where the pantograph was attached is clearly visible. .W.

So did they get them sent to Australia especially for this purpose or were the buses sent over for something else and turned into campers once they had served their purpose?

It was a retired Adelaide trolly bus.
Where it was parked was on private property at a cattle watering point, it was not a camping area and there were signs to that effect, that were totally ignored.
