Defender /County 110/90 Rear Ladder

Ok guys ive made a rear ladder and will post some pics shortly as a request by some members .

Ok as promised pics please give me some input or criticism on what you like or dislike about it

As you will see by the pic's the lower mount is too high 20mm in fact and it was only a estimate to get a measure up better
Also the ladder falls a little short for my liking so i am going to make another longer version .

I'm actually liking the "short" ladder version because we have a rear jerry can holder and a lot of the standard ladders can potentially cause problems by fouling the cans when they are in place.

Been trying to compare numbers before committing to a particular rack/ladder option. Probably going for a Hannibal rack but if the ladder causes problems I guess it will be going on ebay... and I'll be looking for an alternative ladder ;)

Fair call largerfan i never thought of the clearance for the can rack that can be fitted on the rear of the defender/county

With a can in the rack how far is it from the capping of the tub to the top of the can and how much clearance would be needed ?
Any chance of a say a side on and rear on pic please :D

Only the outside can would be impacted and based on measurements I got in another thread I think tappered top (plastic) cans will be OK, it's just the traditional "squarer" metal type might be cutting it close with the ladder installed.

It's too close to call, so the plan is to just suck it and see with a stock Hannibal ladder that comes with the rack and revisit if it causes problems.

Looks like a very well made ladder.
I have a full length ladder which I imported from UK. It's painted black, and like yours, made from aluminium.
I love the practicality of it as it makes climbing a lot easier.

The only bad side to the full length is it obscures the rear number plate.
I hope I don't get knicked by the boys in blue.

I rarely carry extra gerry cans, but when I do, I just strap them to the roof rack.

Definately provide the full length version. I can see people wanting the option.:)

Hi Lokka, what about making a folding lower half? It would give you all the convenience of the full length ladder without blocking the number plate and wouldn't hang down and compromise the departure angle. Wouldn't solve the gerry can issue, though. Cheers, 130man.

Guys Ive been busy the last few weeks and have had other work on now im back on track and looking at designs for roof racks :D
