I've just been informed that AULRO member, Brian Calder AKA Brian on here, and long time ex-colleague from our OTC/Telstra days, passed away yesterday after a short battle with cancer.

I last saw Brian about a month ago when he moved back from Qld at the insistence of his daughters after he was diagnosed.

That's not the best news to hear, At least his suffering has ended,

Thoughts go out to his family,

That's terrible news Ron, in the short time we met and spoke it was clear what a nice Brian was, my condolences to his lovely family which I had the pleasure of meeting the same day.

R.I.P Brian, you will be missed.

Baz.

Wow. If it's the same bloke, I believe I briefly met him at the Arthur Goddard evening. His brother was a little late picking him up, so Barefoot Dave and I kept him company. First impression was he a lovely guy, and gave no indication of ill-health (visually or verbally).

RIP mate.

I concur with all the above comments. Brian was a regular visitor here in the Newcastle area, and I used to enjoy a coffee and a chat with him.:( Last coffee/chat was about a month ago, when he told me the news.:(
Brian was one of nature's gentlemen. RIP Brian.:(:(:(

A short battle is the best battle when it comes to cancer.

Small mercy that he was given time to prepare.
Our thoughts and understanding to Brians' Friends and Family.

I was very fortunate to meet Brian a few times.
1st at banjos place and then him and I were lucky enough to travel from the hunter valley to Brisbane for the Arthur Goddard night.
I made sure I met him just before I moved up north, I was just thinking yesterday I should give him a call.
I was really hoping to see Brian again when I went back home.
I hope I get the chance to meet his daughters again as there are a few things I would like to tell them.
Thank you so much Ron for letting us know.

Landy Smurf, I've just been speaking to one of his daughters and she mentioned a Jason with whom he had travelled. Is that you?

Re funeral, I've also just received this about the funeral arrangements from the Overseas Telecommunications Veterans Association of whch we were both members:

Jason is banjo where we met the first time.
I am Tony/landysmurf.
Thankyou for posting the funeral arrangements up I am going to see if I can make it but most likely can not due to being so far away and so busy right now with university, but I would like to catch up with one/all his daughters one day or send them an email

I know that some people and cultures do not normally speak of or show photos of recently deceased so I hope people find this ok, if not Ron you can delete it.
This is when we met up at banjo/jasons place in February this year I think it was.

Thanks for posting that photo, Tony. For those that don't know us, this was Brian's recent trip to Newcastle with me(Jim) on the left, Banjo (Jason) in the background, LandySmurf (Tony) sitting next to Brian.
It goes to show the value of photo's when sad things like this happens!!

I have never met Brian but have seen his contributions on here.....

Like many other Aulroians gone by that have become a member of this community, They, their spirit and their knowledge/contributions will remain, hence they will never be forgotten by us and even by those that have not yet joined us.:)

RIP Brian
