Folks,

Have read a couple of times on this forum about rubbing hose clips and roadside assistance, thought that you would have to be pretty unlucky for that to happen..

Well, I have joined the club. First time for my 2012 D90 to be calling on roadside assistance coming home from a 2000km trip through the mid-west of WA. Stranded 30km south of Paynes Find.

A hose clip on one of the secondary heater hoses made a nice square hole in the water pump inlet hose, water leaked, engine went into limp mode. Fixed it enough to get back to Paynes Find but then Defender and Camper went onto truck :(.

All fixed now, but an annoying and silly thing to have happen, for anyone who hasn't checked their hoses, have a look.

I had a similar thing happen with one of the clips rubbing through a solid brake line from the ABS modulator...

That was interesting!

surprised yours lasted as long as it id, mine rubbed through in the first 4000kms of owning the car, replaced with a new hose new style clips and some protective stuff on the hose apparently a very very common warranty job.

I had it on the shopping list but after reading this thread it reminded me so I went and ordered some Rescue Tape (http://www.rescuetapeaustralia.com.au/) for our upcoming trip!!!

what strikes me is that you blokes read about the problem on the forum & know about the issue and just hope it dosent happen to you, or buy some 'rescue tape'

why don't you pop your bonnet and fix it up, how long can it take to move a hose clamp around to a clear spot where it wont rub thru the next hose

sheesh !!

I recently spent 8hrs plus climbing under/over mine rerouting and protecting all my cables and wiring (plus as much time again trolling forums to make a list of potential issues) - bugger of a job, but my upcoming Simpson trip is making me paranoid. All of this is on top of the time i spent when I first got her home.

You can argue all you like that you shouldn't have to do this kind of stuff (and to some extent I'd certainly agree), but in my experience that's not as satisfying as not having any issues.

To the OP, sounds like you caught it before any serious damage was done, so that's a plus! This seems to be more of an issue with the 2.2 than the 2.4?

Would you kindly list out the potential issues you grouped so others can follow your move? Thanks

I suspect most people here do exactly that, but ***** still happens. As there's no such thing as "too prepared" in my book .. a $17 roll of rescue tape in the back of the truck seems like plain ol' common sense for any puma owners right now IMO.

It's not a puma problem, it's poor quality control.
You'd think the dealers would pass the info onto the manufacturing plants and get the bl***y clamps positioned right.

It's a no brainer and would avoid a lot of angst.
But then what would I know?
