Hi all,

I need quick help as I need this sorted out today.

I have a slow leek in the front rubber mount under the brake fluid reservoir.
I got a replacement cylinder unit but its of an eariler model, and has four outs rather then 2 (see first two pics)

I was wondering if those two outs can be bypasses by inserting a bolt into them blocking them off? or would this half my braking performance?

another possibility is for me to remove the rubber piece but I cant seem to get it out without braking it, any hints? (3rd pic)
please note, the front of the rubber protudes the front of the mount and I cant seem to get it out. (4th pic)

you can blank the 2 ports that you dont need to use with a bleeder sealed off with a ball bearing, But if you do that you cant get it replaced as a wrong part as you've used it and I wouldnt reccomend doing it other than a very temporary get you out of trouble fix

Power Brakes South Australia for brake parts and service you can't get anywhere else (http://www.powerbrakes.com.au/)

Thanks guys,

I have put a couple of screws into the two unused holes and put some gasket maker on the bolts to seal them properly.

Is this going to kill em on my way to work tomorrow??

If not, Im going to use it for a week or so, untill I can get the rubber boots.

how do I get the rubber boot in? (I got the easy one) But the little front bit I cant figure out?

Also how do I get the second one out of the old reservoir and into the new one.

OK so that was a stupid idea. brake fluid leaks and the pedal is real spongy. :wasntme:

I have ordered a rubber piece, $10.15 + $9 postage. and I should have it tomorrow

Thanks Guys.

Les Richmond Automotive also does grommet sets for the standard m/c. They just push on, although can be a little fiddly when refitting the reservoir.

Hi guys,

I really need some advice on this. How do I get the front gromet in without damaging it?

I cant afford to have the car of the road another day so I cant brake this one.

clean everything first, make it spotless

debur any rough edges very carefully if you need to, clean it again afterwards

prelube everything with brake fluid

push it in very gently stretch it gently as required.

Tilt the grommet at the little pipe, push it into place with a very rounded 6mm flat bladed screwdriver or similar blunt instrument, and then push the other side in. Absolutely no sharp edges on your pushing tool. I usually do it on the vehicle, takes about 10 minutes of holding your tongue the right way. I've done about 10 of them this way, it's just a fiddle.

Oh and it's "break" not "brake" wot yer mean, I think. Brake pedal is wot you step on, break is when its broken.
