Gday All,

Well the ute is on the road and fully rego'd, went cruising last night and the headlights dropped out a couple of times. There was no consistency to the time before they would drop out, sometimes twice in 5mins then would go for 10mins no probs.

If I turned the switch off then straight back on the lights would work.

I remember age's ago a bloke told me that they have a strip in the switch which can overheat and cause trouble's , but never really understood what he meant.

Any idea's.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers Ean

It sounds like a "Bi-metallic strip" which work the same as your common automotive circuit breaker. They do get old and intermittent. IIRC, it is part of the headlight switch. Pull in out and have a look. If you have upgraded the headlights, you may be trying to draw more current through the switch than originally designed.

A good option would be to relay your headlights so that the original switch on draws relay current.

Valiants did the same. There is an overload component in the switch. Solution is to double relay.

Hi Ean.
Get a Traxide wiring kit,VERY EASY DIY.It uses the original wiring as a trigger only, the relays then drag power direct from the alternator. You will be able to put decent H4 lights on her then.Get the spotlight kit at the same time.
You wont regret spending the coin, top quality parts, never had an issue with mine.
