I don't know about anyone else but I hate organizations who issue bills with pay by dates scattered anywhere in the month. Why can't bills be issued so you sit down and pay them all on due on a single date. Probably like me you miss one because the date is stuck on some obscure date. Let's lobby to make all bills due on the 1st of the month. Makes remembering to pay them easier. Jim :):)

When I was poorer I had a "financial planning system" on the mantlepiece. There was a folder of bills, earliest due date to the front. Now I generally pay the bills as they come in, can't forget them.
Staggered bills work better on a low income stream, you pay one from each payday. Many companies offer more frequent smaller payment options for this reason.
Then there's Telstra, all my comms bills have been combined into one. A total of 5 different items paid all at once, because I can manage.

Why not BPay the bills as they come in ?
BPay them on-line from your bank a/c with the actual required date of payment being the due date.
This way the bill can be filed away on the day it arrives as "paid". Your bank takes care of the actual payment on the due date.
No extra fees for doing it this way, and I've never had a problem with a late payment or payment going astray.
Sure beats the old system of going around and paying bills.

What really get up my nose are companies that change their Bbay account number from month to month as they cannot be programmed into your system.

I agree with you and nothing stop you to pay some money in advance for bills like council rates, power and water

I always pay by BPAY exactly on the due date, I never pay early because why should they make interest on my money, and I lose interest on my money by paying early.
Your idea is great, i might be losing a minuscule amount of interest but at least they aren't making any on it !! And I think they do make significant amounts of interest by early payers.

I forgot to mention that I am retired and only get one super payment a month, near the end. I suppose budgeting would help but it would be easier to pay on one day after getting pay. Jim

We use the Bpay ahead on the due date method for many bills, but usually set it to actually pay it the day before, just in case, to reduce the chances of copping a late payment charge.

Both me and SWMBO get paid once a month - on the same day. I Bpay the bills once a month regardless of the due date. If it is a bit early, great, if it is a bit late - too bad. By the time I get a reminder for the overdue ones they are generally already paid.

We get a 20% discount on our power bill if paid on time. It averages around $7,000 per quarter so we don't want to be late.
