Hi all,

The Continental Crosscontact that come standard on the defender, well on mine they were the standard tyre, state that the max tyre pressure is 69 psi. I'm running less than that but I'm fishing for opinions and experiences on what the optimal pressure is for that tyre. I'm off on a short trip tomorrow with mostly highway driving and nothing remotely difficult off road is planned.

Regards,

Danial.

the side of the door says - 30psi front empty or loaded. rear range from 35 up to 50ish i think

I run 30 Front and 35 rear when empty, although I think it's burning some fuel...

If I go to 40 all round it gets bouncy as hell

G'day Danial, I run mine about 38 F and 35 R. Seem to have a good ride with that, and then when in sand/mud, I run them about 10 down from that.

Hi Danial. I have got 80,000 ks odd out of my conti's,(still with 1/4 tread left), when i first got the car in 2011 I thought they would be useless, but after doing quite a few miles around aus on various outback tracks I can't fault them, except maybe for mud, but then most tyres clog up anyway. Suffice to say I bought another set recently (no punctures either!)
Anyhows I run 32lb front (cold) and 48lb rear (cold), this is with a vehicle with factory winch and h/duty landrover springs front and rear, full hannibal roof rack and james baroud camper pod. For outback gibber tracks and ones like Googs track 22lb front and 28lb-32lb rear.Rotation of tyres every 10,000k.Work well in the snow down here in tassy too!

On my 90 I run 33psi cold front & rear, 22psi on mud, rocks etc & 15psi on sand. Works for me. I go to 36psi fully loaded for an extended trip. Surprisingly happy with the Continentals.

I forgot to mention before, that I have not been comfortable with the CC's in the wet as I don't have TC and they lock up/skid quite easily .

gt4, are you in a duel cab pick-up? The reason I ask is the pod you mention (?). So I'm wondering if you have had similar experience with the brakes/tyres locking up.

Hi, no the vehicle is a 110 station wagon, with full roof rack and Baroud camper pod, in regards brakes, i replaced the lot at 90,000 k's, not experienced any issues, however the rear passenger wheel bearing did collapse!.

FWIW, I measured the tyre pressures on the day I took my new 110 home from the dealer. Actual tyre pressures on that day were front 30psi and rear 42psi.
