Right well for anyone that was traveling over the Westgate into the city today at 14:30 sorry for the delay, But my prop shaft spat the uni and made a mess.
It did not give me much warning maybe about 1 k of noise could not work out what it was, by that time missed the Willy Rd exit so the servo was my best park.
well I did not make it got to the top and Pop, lets just say I hit the ankers pretty hard but the damge was done already,
got a bit of rope out of the car and with a Highway patrol car and two Vic roads vans we rolled down the hill.
When it snapped the shaft whent straight into the auto box and cracked it, did not stand a chance, I would hate to see what it could do at 110kh
I have 2 spare cars but both are D1's one Auto and one Manual.
I know the LT230 is the same on both but is the Auto Box the same if so to which point. years??
Will have to wait till monday before i can get part numbers off what I have any help before then would be great.:(

theres a D2 auto c/w LT230 in markets section,
i don't get how these UJ's go without warning, obviously the soundproofing in Discos is too good

Bugger. I pretty much live at the bottom if the bridge abd have a spare shaft in the shed.... If only youd made it to the servo. I was lucky, i heard the chirp heading up the bridge last year, so i put some nee unis in it, but changed to a tom Woods soon after.
I hope the wallet doesnt get too much of a hammering!

I think you'll find they changed with the D2's, electronic controls ect..
If a D2 v8 auto is usable....

The front shaft takes out the auto, pretty much the expected outcome.
At 200k swapped mine out in my D2a as preventative maintenance, sounds like it was a good move.
You will need a D2 auto, the D1 is not controlled electronically so no good for you. The one in the P38 Rangie might do if your D2 is a V8. But you will need one of the more knowledgable forum mechanics to confirm that.

The D2 box is a 4HP22EH (E for Electronic controlled), the D1 is a 4HP22(H), hydraulic only.
So it's missing the input for the electronic controls, also I think the WXYZ switch may be different (or at least the connector). I think the earlier LT230's don't have the cross drilled input gear either and the coupling shaft from the auto certainly isn't, and there's 2 different lengths for auto (longer) and manual.

How much is the Les Richmond one?
Price is $795
yes its seems a bit much but its a improved front propshaft, built using heavy duty tubing with an increase in diameter, longer propshaft slip-joint and stronger but more importantly serviceable UJ's and cardinal joint

I purchased a Tom Woods shaft last Monday for $522. I will stand corrected, but I believe these are the best available.
