View Full Version : Definition of confidence.

I have just started a new job which requires me to train in Brisbane.
On Monday, I drove to the Melbourne airport and parked my Fraud Terrastory in the long term car park.
I got into Melbourne on Friday evening, returned to my Fraud and hit the key and was soon heading for the exit. It was then that I saw the ultimate definition of confidence .....
A P38 Rangie parked in the long term car park!
It appeared to be on the bump stops already too. I can only imagine the owner trying to unlock the thing with the remote after the battery goes flat and then resetting windows etc.

You can picture old mate standing beside it waiting for the tank to build up enough pressure to raise it too!
On that note, would it be a good idea to fit a battery isolator to the main battery when parking long term? It's easier than removing battery leads in an airport car park and would also double as an extra anti-theft device!

I'm on vacation at present. Left mine with the eas isolated. Will be interesting to see how far it has dropped after 11 days. Should have recorded each of the pressures and the battery voltage.

I've left mine 3 weeks at Sydney domestic terminal, got back started first go, it levelled slightly and off I went:D:D

Agreed, I have left mine for weeks at a time either parked at airports, in my driveway, or an underground car park at a unit I used to have in Sydney and rarely had any issues with EAS or radio interference.

Must admit. I have every confidence in the old gal. Very sad to admit, but I've missed her. Perhaps more than the dog!

I leave mine for weeks at a time and it always starts first go. The P38a really is a good vehicle when maintained.

Hey guys,
I just bought my P38 a couple of weeks ago so I am constantly learning and am not sure what all this means. Can someone clarify for me;
If you leave a P38 for a long period (i.e. a week) the electronics etc will drain the battery?
And
If it is left, the air suspension will lower in height and then not want to re-inflate?
I went away for a week last week and my battery was completely flat when I got home. Apparently all the lights turned on the first night for couple of minutes and then went out again. Someone I have spoken to said that the battery was stuffed and not holding charge, so as it dropped to a certain voltage, the computers had a 'spack attack' and then disarmed the engine. When we got home and I put a new battery in, I had to enter the Emergency Access Code (what a process that was) and then could start the engine.
Is my battery going to constantly drain if left for periods without driving it?
Thanks

Hi
There are circumstances where the battery will drain, but a good battery should be fine under normal conditions without faults
Check this procedure
Sticky: Electrical Troubleshooting Updated 2010 (http://www.rangerovers.net/forum/7-range-rover-mark-ii-p38/28663-sticky-electrical-troubleshooting-updated-2010-a.html)
There is also this technique if things get gnarly https://www.facebook.com/groups/RRP38/doc/519280318093629/
Also it is well worth getting a good 7 stage battery charger esp if you are goign to leave the beast for long periods without driving it
Good luck

Hi,
No, not unless you have an EAS fault of some kind as well

I might have to rethink my original comment.
After working overseas for a couple of weeks, I just started my P38 for the first time in 19 days... 1st go, Ripper! Sounded strong with no signs of a weak battery.
I fitted a new Battery about a month ago.
Interesting to note the EAS had only dropped about 10-20 mm from HIGH.
Now to find some spare time to do the following;
Drive it.... 1,300Km since July!
Fit Rear draws / fridge slide. Has to be easily removable for spare tyre.
Fit 2nd hand Winch Bar.
