Here's the scenario gentlemen. 1st to second; no prob, 2nd to 3rd press clutch to change ( at 2000rpm) and get sound/vibration like clutch out of balance/disintergrating, same up 4th, 5th. If I clutch and free run in 5th at 100 ks it sounds /feels like again-clutch fibre plate, as half clutch changes are better, (slip clutch).

Today I pulled the 3.5 out to find NO damage to fibre plate, fly-wheel, thrust bearing or clutch housing.

There is a bit of play sideways on the input shaft but I wouldn't have thought enough to cause problem.

Just drained the gearbox fluid to find only about 2 litres (should be 2.7). Likely solution?
No excessive g/b noise either. Got me stumped,,,,AND a new clutch.

There's probably only a mm left to right play in the input shaft. Can the input bearing be changed easily?

I'd be more likely to suspect a dried out spigot bush in the end of the crankshaft. They sound pretty horrible when sloppy. Soak a new one in a tin of oil overnight before fitting it.

hang on....

3.5... in a disco?

with an LT77 right? reverse is over and alongside first yeah?

might be the output shaft bearing on the way out or the shaft "thrusting" causing syncro issues.

When you install the new 1, fill it full of oil, and press firmly between finger & thumb and watch the oil seeping through the bearing to make sure its well lubricated before you install it. (or you will be doing it again soon)
