Overhead console items

looking into making my own overhead console.

other then provision for:
cb/clip for mic
map lights/interior light
maybe roof mount tv/dvd unit :)

what else have you got/would want in a roof mount console (perpendicular to the windscreen)

Paper map holder( net kind) . Pen ring ala taxi drivers dash ... That's the stuff I always loose or bugger up because I jam them beside the seat

You can never have too many 12v outlets IMO. One or two in a roof console would be great for charging phones or small devices and allow you to keep them out of the way.

I had one made for me because I'm a little clumsy and leather stitching isn't my cup of tea. Nor are vehicle electronics come to think of it.

Anyway....

Main light
UHF radio with a clip for mounting handset (driver's side for'ard)
Two 12v sockets, (passenger's side aft and driver's side aft)
Two map lights on the stern of the unit
Mount and bracket for my winch wireless remote control (driver's side aft)
Large carpeted storage area for sunnies, various chargers and adaptors, maps, passengers' iPods and Phones etc I've even kept thongs up there as I can't drive in them and don't like leaving them down near my feet.

I have pockets in the seat covers so these tend to be filled up with maps, instruction manuals etc which have migrated down form the console.

Some people put a rain jacket or fold up brolly in there too but they're a bit bulky for my console.
