My experience of drinking Coopers, is that it was like drinking mud. What is that sediment all about anyway, the only dark drink worth drinking is Guinness stout. Bob

That suits us... more for us :)
My preference is Pale Ale, then Coopers stout and all their beautiful
selections are a worthy drop.
I am afraid my carton of Vintage didnt last long... (12 months!!)
not quite what they were designed for!

I wish, nearest is over 1000 km away. What's going on in Darwin??
Needless to say boutique beers are a tad expensive here and limited. Most would also be asking what am I referring with the word boutique. Crafted would mean equally less to the locals I'm guessing.

http://www.feralbrewing.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Feral-Hop-Hog.jpgThis is my current favourite beer, Feral Brewery Hop Hog. One of my staff's husbands works for the brewery so she looks after me with heaps of samples :D
American IPA 5.8% 48 IBU OG 1059
Hop Hog is an American style India Pale Ale. We add a heavy dose of American Hops during both during the boil and late in the fermenting stage to give Hop Hog a strong pine needle and citrus aroma, followed by an aggressive bitterness and a dry finish.

I was at the Harts hotel in The Rocks at luchtime today and enjoyed a smoked IPA.
Something really different and actually thoroughly enjoyable. I recommend trying it....very smoky flavour like kippers and bacon but in a beer format. Super stuff. Strong though.....
On a different topic, to those who believe that the only dark ale worth having is a Guinness, I'd say....Are you SERIOUS? Have you tried them ALL?
Get out more, mate. Try new things. If in doubt, make one yourself. My mate's first home brew stout was spectacularly good.

After 21 years in the Navy, all over the World, I think I have tried just about any beer, or stout, you could imagine. Probably the most weird was a wheat beer in Massawa, Ethiopia, and yes, Guinness stout is the best dark beer in the World. No offence meant, but if if you seriously consider a bacon & kippers flavoured beer , your taste buds must have been altered by some foreign substance, like lemonade, or such like. Bob

I love Guinness. 90% of my T-shirts are from Guinness promos over the years. I even got a 240v fridge one promo. The Irish Guinness is definitely different i.e. better, than the Oz brewed drop. My B-I-Law & I stopped at a pub in Limerick while the ladies went for a shop. The was a ciele band playing & we ended up having 15 pints each. The women were really impressed to say the least. :p Sister- in- Law also asked barkeep for a "Scotch" in pub near Firies. He kept saying he didn't understand her until finally the penny dropped with her :lol2:

Guiness is over-rated and over-priced. Best beers come from Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark. They argue about which one invented the stuff and the rest of the world has been playing catch-up ever since.

Yes and I can recommend a great Taven in Dublin if you want the true atmospere of Dublin, it's about 5 minutes walk from the Guinness Brewery and is called the Braisenhead, it's the oldest Taven in Europe, opened in 1509, it is also at medieval level, so it's about 20 to 30 feet below currant street level, the beers cold and the Whiskey is Irish, can't get much better:twobeers:

Guinness was started with Divine influence, and Blessed inheritance, in 1759. Is Guiness allowed to be called beer in Germany? The precise Germans have strict purity laws and rules about what beer (stout, porter) can be made from. Most fermented malt liquors made outside Germany do not comply.

Beer was invented by the Egyptians because the water was so bad. It was for medicinal purposes. It was quite low in alcohol. It was all the first recorded use of writing. They had to record the recipe. I keep telling my wife of all the great things about beer. I don't think she is convinced.

Ale was made and drank in large volumes in medieval times. Ale was considered a healthy drink as people who only drank ale didn't get the waterborne diseases. The brew was boiled but the knowledge of the time didn't extend to bacteria and the fact that boiling the water to make ale killed the cholera and other germs.

German beer philosophy, Bob
The History of German Beer Brewing (http://germanfood.about.com/od/drinks/a/History-Of-Brewing-In-Germany.htm)
and a great idea about overpricing beer ;)
Our oldest records of beer are Sumerian, from near the region of the world's earliest domestication of cereal. Both sexes and all classes drank beer. It was so important that in the Code of Hammurabi (http://ancienthistory.about.com/library/weekly/aa031400a.htm) (18th century B.C.) owners of beer parlors who overcharged customers were to be put to death by drowning.

Spent the first part of an evening in Amsterdam in a Belgian Beer Bar (Belgians make the most different brands of beer per capita than anyone in the world), and 15% alcohol was not unusual.
Later in the night we went for a tour of the Red Light District, or so I was told the next day :p. Memory was a bit sketchy for some reason.
Oh yes, another vote for Guinness, and from experience, it tastes much better when one is sitting in a warm, friendly Irish/English style pub, with friends, and the weather is cold, wet & miserable outside. Definitely not an Australian summer sort of drink

In 1759, Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000 year lease for the St James Gate Brewery at a cost of £45 pounds per year, which is what is still paid today.
