Motorola Defy + MB 526 Music Player

I have a Motorola Defy + MB 526 that I use to play my music from in the car. I use the Motorola music player that suits my needs as it is simple to use.

This phone does not have a data plan so is a dumb phone and only becomes smart when I turn on WiFi at home or at Maccas.

I recently updated all the software on the phone and my Motorola music player disappeared from the phone. When searching for it (and I couldn't find it) I found an app TuneWiki on the phone which is a music player but it looks like the computer nerds went to town on it and is confusing with a lot of unnecessary information that I do not want.

I uninstalled it and I was then able to find my old Motorola music player. However it again disappeared within a day and TuneWiki was back. I removed it and put the Motorola music player back on.

Last night the phone was connected to the net overnight and this morning I woke to find TuneWiki back but the updater indicated that the Motorola music player had been updated to TuneWiki at 0210 with morning.

So the phone is doing this automatically - so Motorola Defy owners how to I stop the phone automatically upgrading the Motorola music player. I have looked all through settings but cannot find anything.

If it is being updated via the Play Store then change the setting to not auto update on wifi.
Alternatively you could download a different basic music player.

Hmm - I honestly do not know - it is the installed Motorola music player so I assume from a Motorola site rather than Play Store.

I have checked the settings in the App area but cannot find anything that turns updates off.

I looked in the Play Store and there is a tuneswiki specifically for Motorola.
When you get a new phone it comes pre installed with some apps. These apps cannot usually be removed however you can remove any updates. Sometimes these updates can go as far as changing the entire app. I would assume that your original music player is one such unremovable app. Therefore when you delete tuneswiki it is really just removing the update. Only to update again later.
To check your auto update settings in the Play Store open Play Store and go into settings. Touch 'auto update apps'. Touch 'do not auto update apps'.

Having said that some manufacturers have their own stores. Samsung does this. So it could be getting an update from there if Motorola has one.
I doubt it would be getting an app update by any other means.

Thanks for that - I have ticked the 'do not auto update apps' so should be all fixed.
