Replacement battery for Disco 3

Hi there,

I need to et a replacement battery for my Disco 3 diesel. The original battery is a Varta: 90Ah, 950amps with an RC of 150 mins. Finding a replacement battery with these specs is proving to be difficult.

Any suggestions?

Hi Paul,

Replaced my Battery with a ACDelco S58515 which has CCA 780, 85 amp hrs and 158 mins.
It is a Din battery therefore has recessed terminals and it "fits".

I've just bought a Supercharge Gold MF88H, which is an 880CCA 160AH replacement. Only just fits too.

What do the dealers replace them with?

Just replaced mine- MR Automotive (land rover specialists) recommend the Bosch S3+ 58515. These fit the factory post positions perfectly and I'm very happy with it. 165RC 85AH 750CCA and it was $295.

My local LR stealer tried to sell me some $650 odd battery (typical):wasntme:

Apparantely century also make a battery that suits but the Bosch has the grunt our toys require and they fit perfectly!

I replaced a Century one with the Supercharge - there is a forum offer available at Supercharge. And it was quite a lot cheaper!

Landrover now come fitted with 850cc AGM batteries , as i am led to believe from our dealer in Perth .

In April I paid $410 for a Varta AGM (G14) from Nth Qld Wholesale Tech Traders for my 3.0 D4 which I understand is the same battery that LR is now fitting. However a lesser battery may suffice on a D3 that has more normal charging rules than those of the D4's fuel economy driven rules.

I had one of these fitted when the original failed and I was stuck one day, it became troublesome after about 6 months, would start the Disco fine but wouldn't fully charge and I was getting a number of faults popping up.

Have a AC Delco fitted now.

I have an amaron pro 90 (800cca) in my D3. Fits nicely and has worked fine for the past 18mths or so. It cost $275. Hth someone !
