Hello All,
I must be doing the wrong sort of research! There is a crew of UK based researchers who investigated the benefits of camping. They have found that one week of camping which involved the banning of all forms of artificial lights allowed people to readjust their body clocks and improve their sleep patterns.
BBC News - Carry on camping - can a week under canvas reset our body clocks? (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-23530408)
Kind Regards

If that's true I am about to get mine reset in a couple of weeks. Plan on doing a trip to the Stockmans hall of fame at Longreach and the Pioneers museum at Winton then via Charleville back towards home. This will include a few nights in the swag under the stars. I think it will be cool but I don't mind.:)

Smart shift workers have known the value of sleeping in total, 101% darkness as a means of 'persuading' their bodies to re-adapt quicker to normal patterns.
Keeping artificial lighting to a minimum, or at least 'cold' or Daylight flouro tubes reserved for daytime (office/factory) lighting helps too.
As does a program such as f.Lux, which IMHO makes a computer screen much more user-friendly in the after-dark times. I reckon I can get to sleep a lot quicker after evening use, whereas before, it was'nt unusual to take ages to nod off...

Just goes to show the value of using and treating our bodies the way they are supposed to be.
But any happy camper could have told them that !:D
PS. When the f.lux is working, the arrow-headed cursor looks.... blueish, makes it easier to see against the warm-white background. :-)

it certainly does. we are usually in bed just after dark, and asleep by 7:o. up at dawn and after a few days of decent sleep patterns feel much better:)

huh? sitting around warm campfires, taste-testing each others ports and wines and chasing it all with your favourite beer doesn't seem to adjust my body clock?

I'll start 5 1/2 weeks in a swag (Canning, Simpson trip) on Sept.7 so the body clock should be fine, just as well because there'll be a lot of time zone changes, may as well leave the wrist watch at home.:)
