I think there are probably quite a few of us out there that have compiled our own versions of onboard reference materials i.e. Rave etc.
Problem is if it is anything like mine its probably all over the place. Some works
on PC and some on android etc

I recently bought android tablet for all this info as well as Ozi Mapping, Apps etc
I TRIED to convert rave from cd to readable pdf,s without success as it is in a special format & encrypted.

Does anyone know if this can or has been done successfully?
I have tried various programs/ apps with no luck and would love to be able to read rave without having to plug in cd drive to tablet as all other help/ info files are easily accessed on this device.

There are a few non-protected PDF versions of RAVE floating about the web. Graeme G Storey on the Range Rover P38 FB group has uploaded a few of them.

What I sometimes do with my protected PDF files is print them to MS Office XPS format and then print again to a PDF writer. Works ok for small sections but I wouldn't rely on it for hundreds of pages.

Android tablets, meh! I have bought a few and understand why they are so cheap :) Not as useless as a Windows 8 RT tablet though.. bought one, used it for a couple of days, put it down on the bench and it has been there for 6 months!

Cheers, Paul.

Hi

Not sure if my copy of RAVE is unprotected but I was easily able to upload it to my Ipad and read it with adboe pdf reader, I imagine Android will be the same.

If you would like a copy of the RAVE i have, just give me a shout!

Actually Paul I purchased an 3G Ipad Mini but got frustradted to hell trying to put some of my windows stuff onto it.
No cd/dvd no USB really makes it difficult to get stuff into it.

So I took it back and got ASUS Transformer Pad - 3G,GPS, SD card,HDMI,USB, 32GB. BT Wifi
Notepad type Keyboard Dock which detaches to make screen a Tablet & doubles battery life as Dock & Screen have own battery

Also I can mount in car just like Ipad for GPS italso has Quad core processor and better resolution than Ipad.
Just need to get Ozi Explorer now so I can load maps into it.
Hopefully it is going to be reliable, just have to wait & see I guess!

I've got the iPad and my wife has got the Asus transformer. Both have advantages/disadvantages. On the iPad I run an app caled "GoodReader" it makes transferring files very easy between devices. On the ASUS Transformer I do like the idea of having external drives, as well as the extra battery life, but the weight also increases, but the wireless reception is crap, it's just a matter of preferences as to which one best suits the requirements.

Gary ( I still like my iPad)

On the iPad I use an app called "Good Reader". A really good file management program, as well as having the ability to open and transfer all sorts of files including pdf's to and from the iPad.

You can also use the free iBooks or Acrobat Reader applications on iDevice to read and organise pdfs.

Most iOS apps let you transfer files via iTunes. Once you hook up your iPad and select it it in iTunes, click the Apps tab, then scroll down to the file sharing section and click the application you want to add the file to. You can then add or delete files as required.

iBooks is slightly different in that you need to add the PDF to the iTunes book library and then select which pdfs you want to sync under the Books tab.

If you have access to Acrobat Pro on a desktop machine you can create "portfolios" of pdfs but the disadvantage is you have to use Acrobat Reader if you want to use them as is. Good reader etc can open portfolios but have to unpack the individual files to read them.

Incisor sells CD's with the liberated RAVE content through the AULRO shop if you feel like supporting the forum.

cheers

What the hell is rave?

Rover Active Viewing Environment - who ever though of that acronym had thick glasses and a tweed jacket.

A workshop manual on pdf.

Apple does seem to make these things hard. I downloaded rave and the etm on the galaxy s3 and it works great.

with file app pro you share the files between you iphone and your computer via either a third party program on your computer or via wifi network. open the app and all the instructions are in the app. i personally would not recommend file app pro, with large files it is slow and jittery. i only use it because i downloaded it ages ago when there wasnt much else out there. theres a lot of free pdf readers out there these days keep trying thr free ones till you get one that suits you.
