the way of the world and quality web content.

the latest figures out show that more and more quality web content is having to go the full subscriber model to survive due to the increasing use of Ad Blockers such as adblock plus etc

I have always maintained that i would provide free access to the important areas of aulro.com whilst i owned and operated it.

Increasingly that goodwill has been eroded by peoples increasing use of technology that stops me getting the returns needed to maintain and grow the system via the advertising on the site.

Subscribers see less adverts on the system but still see the three main system banners at the top of the system under the logo. They are the main money earners so it hits the budget if these advertisements are not displayed.

Gold subscribers have access to a light weight skin that displays no adverts and loads a lot quicker than the normal skin and i am looking as providing another std skin with no advertising as part of the changes i am looking at bringing in to help enhance subscription rates.

if you are using an ad-blocker on aulro please weigh up the advantages of disabling it whilst you are on aulro.com

it normally just takes one click to disable ad-blockers on this site.

thanks for taking the time to read this...

I do not know how to block ads, so leave them on. Do enjoy this site, and the ads normally do not bother me. However getting ads for a Kia on this site, when I only drive Land Rovers is amusing to me--I have no plans on buying a Kia-- others may be different in their thinking.

Wow I forgot I even had an add blocker.

Adblock Plus on firefox:
Whilst on the website go to
Tools > Adblock Plus > Disable on aulro.com

I have ads again ;)

I think the add content on Aulro is fine, the problem is they occasionally hang up page loads. It would not be a problem if you fetched all the add content after the page has loaded/rendered.

window.onload = function() { //dom not only ready, but everything is loaded
//inject the ADVERTS
};

Inc I disable the adds as they slow down and hang all the time.
If you are going to

Quote " i am looking as providing another std skin with no advertising as part of the changes i am looking at bringing in to help enhance subscription rates."

Can you make some form of announcement of what you are doing I would be happy to subscribe.

I've had adblock disabled on AULRO since installing it.

Very easy to configure and the few ad's don't worry me too much.

If you do have normal adblock and want to unblock and unsure left click on the symbol top right and then click on 'dont run on pages on this domain' another box will come and just click'exclude'

if you have adblock plus it is the symbol in the search bar that looks like a stop sign with 'ABP' on it, in the photo above it is next to the white star.
left click on it and untick the box and then click on the 'easy create filter' and then another little box pops up just click cancel.

I did notice the page does take a little bit longer to load but for me not a problem.
For those who do not know too much about computers(me included) then start task manager and click on processors this will list your top users. Just by having a google page up not doing anything is using up quite a lot.

I am a subscriber anyway, but it should perhaps be pointed out that ads greatly slow the loading of the pages over a satellite link. Which some of us have no choice but to use - so I use adblock.

100% agree. It's the presence of adblockers that stops me advertising on this & other forums. Or makes me think long & hard about it anyway.

As a consumer, some ads are just intrusive, annoying, and counter productive. Some seem scattergun. Yet as a business owner, forum ads are ideal to narrow cast to the target market. They can be informative.

Adblockers wipe out both. I don't know what the happy medium is.

no one wants you to buy one, just to let them advertise here so you can access your land rover content with them paying the bills... :D

The ads don't bother me, mainly I just ignore them. Unlike Television were the ads are right IN YOUR FACE, and you can't ignore them. For that reason I don't watch much TV.:D I have never bothered turning the Ad blocker on, as some of the ads are informative to me!!!:D

I appreciate the site and the generous help offered by so many on it. I've had a great deal of help with things I struggled with. Money is very tight for me, and I can't stretch to subscribe yet, so I'm happy for the adds to pay the upkeep.
