Was talking to a mate who has a military series 2a 88" on full rego and he says that the price for the greenslip has gone up massively, making the cost of rego up to the $2,000 mark. He says it's because it is classified as a ute.

Is that true, has anyone else found this?

What about the hard tops have they experienced similar price hike issues?

mines not due for rego until December but if that's true then it will have to be club rego from then on that's a huge increase:mad:

shop around.

88 4 cyl should be cheep as it is lighter and not going to be used every day.

I tried to do a online quote but it has too many options.

my BF falcon wagon was over $1000 for rego and green slip.
$45 inspection and insurance was very cheep at $400 ish.so $2000 for a city folk is not unrealistic.

my AU falcon has fire/theft at $200 and was more than my discovery last year.

they keep talking about in the future you pay for distance travelled-or user pay--so many older cars will be worth saving and help the environment[economy].

Just did a greenslip comparison for a '74 motor car, private ownership etc, prices were in the low $700 area. Redid the calculation with the '74 ute, all other details the same, cost was $964 cheapest and over grand for most of them.

Diana, my 130 CC was registered at the end of January and the rego, or more properly the 'road tax' plus rego was over $650 (business) and the green slip around $400.

They are looking at new rules for how greenslip insurance pays for injuries some say it will be cheaper(govt) others say more expensive(most of us) but as yet they have not changed the rules

I would suggest that you query with your local NSW motor registry or RTA head office at wherever they are now, as there is a big difference between a Series Landrover and a turboed Jap Ute (diesel 4 cyl) as I have just gone through this with Qld Transport, with a vehicle owner transfer, as my 1980 Series 3 Lightweight was regoed as a 1984 Diesel 3 seater Ute as that was what the Computer said it was,it took me 3 hours and with the vehicle to convince them it was a 4 cylinder PETROL,with 4 seats (FFR) 2 Front (large battery box in the middle) and 2 x singles at the back, the only thing that was right was the petrol engine number :) it only took 2 x counter attendents and 1 inspector who came out, looked at it and the owners/users manual, master parts book, then stated it's ex army! just put down whatever is on the nomenclature plates :D so now when the rego is due I will be able to go onto Historic as I am a member of a recognised vehicle club.

cheers

It would have to be all the tradies in their V8 Holden SS and Falcon Boss utes going too fast with no weight in the back. The actuaries have spread the risk across all utes.

Must be based on postcode too, the Patrol was regoed in June and it was no where near that ?

Just running through the QBE quoter now for the 130 in another tab...

Came out at $479 incl. GST for business use for twelve months here.

Our fuel and food and clothing is dearer but at least our greenslips are cheaper, but that's a huge difference between Marks and my quote.

That is ridiculous.
Makes me start thinking of something I was going to do not so long ago, I think I will have to in my uni break now.

Qld. rejigged the CTP categories some time ago. When I worked at Leyland Truck and Bus, all LR's other than station wagons sold for private use by our retail outlet were registered as private use utilities. This was the cheapest classification. Now there is only one class for utilities and the CTP premium is inflated no doubt by the numbers of high usage business vehicles.

Both my defenders regoed in WA for just over a grand combined. All four of my series LR's were registered as utes when I was in NSW,you can take the roof off so they are classified as utes. Pat

My Green slip renewal just came in for the 97 Disco. NRMA $767 this was a big rise on last year and when I rang them they said its because I did not have comp insurance (whats that got to do with it?) anyway i did have comp with another company so they offered to knock a couple of hundred off. I did an online quote and GIO came in at $549 so i'll be switching to them.

My 1996 TDi300 Defender 130 green slip from NRMA was $964. Been with them 30 years no accidents in last 25 years comprehensive insurance , house, contents etc etc. would not budge as is classified as a truck. Went to RTA and they said is correct. Went to AAMI I think and was $665. Nuts!

I am running 2 x P38 4.6 HSE Range Rovers these days, one a 1995MY and the other a 1996MY. Both regos are due within a 2 week period.

I did the usual MAA Greenslip website check with the '96 & went for the cheapest option. A week later I went through the same thing with the '95 & found the cheapest Greenslip was around $100 dearer.

On checking the rego papers, the '96 has a vehicle 'shape' of PVF (panel van four wheel drive) but the '95 has PVS (panel van with seats). Both cars have the same model code of RANG95A.

I assume the insurance companies class PVS as a commercial vehicle & PVF as a passenger vehicle.

So, I rang the RMS (RTA) & explained that I had 2 of the same model car & that I would like to have the '95 changed to PVF. She ummed & aahed a bit, spoke to her supervisor who couldn't help & ended up telling me that they'd have to take it further up the line. She took my details & promised to call back later that day with an update.

One hour later, she calls back & tells me that it's all been changed so I now have 2 x PVF Range Rovers :).

I have no idea if this is how the states other than NSW operate but if you're in NSW & you have a Discovery, Freelander or Range Rover, I'd be checking that it's down as a PVF to get the best possible deals on Greenslips.

I always thought the PVF was panel van with fenestrations (windows), you learn something every day.

Easy to see how IAG (NRMA) has tripled its profits now. My greenslip has gone up over 20% compared with last year. Better to be a shareholder than a customer me thinks
