Up in Darwin with no indicators.
Indicators and hazard lights gave up the ghost somewhere up here on the Gibb River corrugations. I understand from reading posts that the indicators and the hazard switch are linked. I know where the hazard switch is but as for the flasher unit!!!!
The dealer up here didn't seem any wiser than me on the subject. From the dealer computer it looks like one of the two yellow relay boxes in the fuse box area.
Anyone know which one of the two it is I have to replace, assuming one of these is the flasher unit, and would it be a three or four pin unit on a 1996 Defender? This is important to me as the three pin unit is about forty bucks and the four pin about one hundred and twenty. Do you think I need to replace the hazard switch as well?
Should I remove the fuse panel to replace the unit or do I just, well, yank it?

If its not one of these boxes where the hell would it be?

On a td5 there( it's ) behind the instruments ( coupla screws on each side ... Then 2 relays and the blinker unit are to the right of the steering column up top)
Hope this helps

Ps mine went up there due to vibrations shaking loose the pins to the circuit board if this is the case you can solder them up ... Also a shake often gets them going temporarily also check the plug on the back of the Hasadd switch hasn't come loose

Hmmm,
I believe it will actually be a relay that is mounted to the left of the fuse block behind that steel plate

Chances are your problem will be the hazard switch not the flasher can

Look at the wiring diagram for the hazard and put a jumper across the circuit to isolate the hazard circuit from the indicator circuit

Would be a good test before spending any money on flasher cans etc

I recon the two yellow ones are lighting relays ..... The flasher should have " flasher unit" printed on it... What engine/ year?

Ps the two yellow ones should just pull out ( gently wiggle out)

This might help with 52 being relay and 61 h switch and 62 h on lamp
Ps 300tdi
Fwiw while 300tdi def diagram shows 4 pin but 1995 disco is 3 pin ...

As roverrescue said its to the left of the fuses. Unscrew the metal panel for easy access. The flasher is not a common one that the normal auto stores seem to stock. The 300tdi one is the same as the td5 flasher (I'm told). I got one because I thought I had a dud flasher, but it turned out to be something simple like a failed fuse (broken rather than melted inside) can't quite remember. It's 4 pin according to the diagram I have.
