Hi there

Looking for some info
Last night my wife got home with our 2002 my D2 td5 approx 135k miles whilst parking on a hill she lost forward and reverse drive I went out to see what the problem was thought it had lost trans fluid after all recent pipe bursts approached car no oil under car all pipes look good.

Started car, ticking noise coming from bell housing area no drive.

She said that she lost drive but got a little further then no drive at all no sudden bangs or cracks.

I'm going to look through bellhousing inspection plate today to see if it is the flex plate.

Think it's a box out job, at least flex plate and bolts etc and possable damage to torque converter bolt holes.

Any help on diagnosis would be appreciated as well as any other things to look at whilst in there.

Update
Just been out and removed cover from bottom of bellhousing
All three bolts good plate and torque converter turning with engine running so looks like it will be deeper inside box.

Ticking noise that I though was flex plate area has disappeared ?

Car sitting on hill so next step is get it recovered to flat surface and check level of trans fluid with engine running box run through gears then in neutral.

When the box was re-filled after the pipes burst, was the re-fill procedure followed? It could be low on fluid still.
Good luck with it.

Pipes not burst in my ownership but box overheated and damaged in previous life.
Box replaced with Ashcroft recon unit and new cooler fitted been smooth and good changing since I bought it.

I did think that would be one if the big D2 issues dealt with but now not so sure.

Checked level with car sitting overnight so fluid cool ran through gears and opened filler plug oil started to come out quick so I think level was ok.

No drive at all?
Can you get drive in 1?
What about low range?

I suspect the TC has died. Maybe stripped the input splines, which may have been the ticking noise as the last of them wore off? Auto boxes are not my area of expertise though for it to stop suddenly is not good. OH, A thought, check the transfer lever has not jumped into neutral! Has happened before! :o

:( Well as they say, If ya give it any, Give it plenty!! Yes that Hi-Lo trick can be a little unnerving. I nearly had a GQ cheap once that had done it, 'cept I took pity on the guy :-/

Got car recovered to local specialist

Gearbox pulled and sent to Ashcrofts

They say that the refurbed box was incorrectly fitted by previous owner causing the oil pump to fail.
As a gesture of good will from Ashcrofts I got a good deal for refurb as it was not recon defect but bad fitting that caused the failure BIG THANKS for that saved a good bit.

My message is follow fitting instructions to the letter.

Thanks to Dave and his gang will continue to use and recommend you.

I read this too late, but was going to say pump, same thing happened to me, some one installed oil pump gear upside down and it eventually went bang no drive. I didn't happen for ages but it happen when least expected.
